Duties
Deliver interpretive presentations, programs and activities to provide visitors with opportunities to discover, appreciate, and connect with the park and its natural and cultural resources, and understand their significance to Canada.
In this role, you will:
Present meaningful, engaging, and enjoyable interpretation programs and activities to help connect the hearts and minds of visitors to the park.
Greet and orient visitors; offer wayfinding information, public safety and interpretive messages.
Demonstrate interpretation techniques and practices visitors.
Provide feedback and suggestions to improve programs and services.

Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canadas outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Intent of the process
Anticipatory process: This process will be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff positions (May to October) temporarily or permanently for the season and future years.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)
STUDIES:
Education: college diploma or higher in one of the following fields of study: heritage interpretation, animation, biology, ecology, environment, history, geography, geology, recreology or related field, adventure tourism, theatre, music, performing arts.
OR an acceptable combination of education and training or traditional knowledge relevant to the position.
The acceptable combination of education, training or traditional knowledge relevant to the position is two years of post-secondary education AND a minimum of one successfully completed course relevant to the duties of the position a course taken as part of a program of study for a university degree): course taken through continuing education, college, university, professional or government organization, including training provided by Aboriginal Elders or group, which may include but is not limited to heritage presentation, communications, public speaking, traditional Quebec music, performing arts).
EXPERIENCE:
Recent* and significant** paid or volunteer work experience requiring direct contact and communication with the public;
Recent and significant experience in presenting messages and information to groups in person for education, engagement, entertainment, and/or motivational purposes such as storytelling, performing arts, theatre, activity facilitation, improvisation, etc.
Experience playing and singing traditional Quebec music with a musical instrument such as violin, guitar, accordion, etc.

Knowledge of presentation and interpretation techniques, including storytelling and demonstration techniques, theatre programs or guided walks.
Knowledge of the role of Parks Canada Agency interpretive activities in achieving its mandate.
ABILITIES:
Ability to popularize and highlight information and make it accessible and interesting to a variety of target audiences using various methods of interpretation.
Ability to portray characters and give theatrical performances.
Ability to support diverse groups of visitors in changing situations.

Additional qualification ASSET (EXPERIENCE):
Experience singing and performing Quebec folk music for an audience with an instrument such as a violin, guitar, accordion, harmonica, etc.;
Experience with joinery, cabinet making, barrel making, and/or restoring wood objects;
Experience with the visual arts, theatre set making and design, sewing, and interpretation materials;
Experience in gardening and/or raising farm animals;
Experience with traditional inshore fishing;
Theatrical experience as an actor, director, comedian, storyteller or traditional Quebecois dancing;
Experience as a heritage presenter within the Parks Canada Agency
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Obtain and maintain Reliability Status security clearance.
Possession of a valid Driver's license (Class 5).
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
The incumbent must:
Wear the Parks Canada uniform in accordance with the Parks Canada dress code and/or wear a period costume as required by the Agency;
Agree to work shifts, weekends, and/or national or provincial holidays;
Work and/or travel on varied terrain, in variable weather conditions, in remote locations, and using various means of transport;
Stand or walk/hike for long periods (3 hours) on varied terrain, in variable weather conditions, in remote locations, and using various means of transport;
Handle reproductions of historical artifacts;
Handle fauna and/or flora;
Perform housekeeping/cleaning tasks in designated work areas;
Perform certain job-related physical tasks as required, lift a 10 kg box of leaflets.
