Duties
In the role of the Visitor Experience Manager for Kejimkujik, you work in one of Canadas most beloved national parks. You proudly contribute to an organization committed to protecting this spectacular place and sharing it with visitors who experience the wonder of this national park, national historic site, and coastal wilderness. Your duties include:
Managing the planning, development, pricing, promotion and delivery of programs, activities,
operations, services, and visitor facilities at Kejimkujik;
Participating as an active member of Kejimkujik operations and strategic planning committees as well as the Mainland Nova Scotia Field Unit management team and the Mikmaq- Parks Canada Advisory Committee;
Leading strategic planning initiatives for visitor experience at Kejimkujik;
Managing a budget for salaries and wages, goods and services, and capital investments;
Supervising three direct reports and managing a visitor experience team of 45 people;
Fostering and managing relationships with key stakeholders, concession holders, conservation and education partners, and local tourism industry;
Working as part of an integrated team with the Mikmaq of NS in recognition of the implementation of rights, working towards enhanced collaboration and shared decision making in visitor experiences, stories, products, and programs at Kejimkujik as a Mikmaw cultural landscape.
Work environment
Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canadas outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.
Kejimkujik is both a national park and national historic site, in recognition of a Mikmaw cultural landscape and the connection to land of the Mikmaq since time immemorial. Petroglyphs, traditional encampment areas, canoe routes, and present-day birch bark harvesting and canoe building attest to the continued presence of the Mikmaw people. Kejimkujik is a biodiversity hotspot, with many reptiles and amphibians, rare plants, lakes and rivers, and old growth forests. It is also designated as a Dark Sky Preserve in recognition of the outstanding quality of night sky viewing.
Kejimkujik National Park Seaside is a separate protected wilderness on the Atlantic coast where you can experience pristine white sand beaches, astounding turquoise waters, coastal bogs, abundant wildflowers, rich lagoon systems, and coastal wildlife.
Over the past several years, Parks Canada has built a number of strong relationships with the Nations of the historic Peace and Friendship treaties. Parks Canada and the Mikmaq of Nova Scotia have collaborated on a multitude of initiatives, and have established a strong, valued relationship. This position will be part of an integrated team, working towards enhancing those relationships and furthering mutual goals.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)
EDUCATION:
-Graduation with a degree from a recognized university with specialization in business administration, marketing, recreation, leisure studies, tourism or other discipline relevant to the position.
OR
An acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered if you do not have a degree or diploma. For example, relevant experience and career advancement in a recreation, tourism and/or business organization that includes at least two years of management experience.
NOTE: Proof of education will be required at time of interview.
EXPERIENCE:
Significant experience building and managing teams;
Significant experience working with Indigenous peoples, communities, and organizations;
Significant experience in the management of financial resources including but not limited to salaries, revenue, project funds, and operational expenditures;
Experience in the planning, development, pricing, promotion and/or delivery of programs, activities, operations, services and/or facilities in a tourism related context;
Experience in strategic planning, including the use of social science research and trend analysis to identify target markets and develop visitor experience opportunities;
Experience in establishing and implementing collaborative arrangements to develop and deliver visitor experience opportunities with a range of external organizations.
*Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience acquired over a period of at least 2 years and within the last 5 years.

Knowledge of Parks Canada, its mandate, vision, objectives, and programs;

Knowledge of issues and trends affecting Indigenous people in Canada, including how the management of protected areas relates to the implementation of rights, self determination, conservation, economic opportunities, and indigenous tourism.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
Ability to strategically identify, develop, and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders and partners;
Ability to lead a team and affect change to implement Parks Canadas vision;
Ability to take a market-centred approach to identify, analyze and enhance opportunities for visitor experience;
Ability to plan, develop and deliver activities, programs and services programs that are consistent with Parks Canada corporate orientation and objectives as well as local realities and evolving visitor demand;
Ability to interact with various levels of government, including Indigenous councils and organizations, in developing relationships and agreements, and in decision-making.
