General Contractor
Leading general contractor focused on major infrastructure projects across Canada
Large general contractor seeking experienced Superintendent with 10+ years of relevant experience in construction phase of large infrastructure projects (> $500m). The Superintendent (Steel Structure / Concrete) will supervise steel structure erection, coordinate with the substructure concrete works, perform inspections and manage the resources efficiently to meet the project schedule deadlines.
Required positive interaction and productive working relationships with other supervisory staff, office and technical staff, Ministry of Transportation personnel, emergency personnel and the travelling public.
Core Responsibilities
Preparation of thorough, accurate and timely initial and final schedules.
Ensure compliance with the quality, safety and client’ requirements.
Perform site inspections, identify non conformities and make recommendations.
Review potential items previously identified by the project team and initiate project documentation into the log system.
Receive the client approval on the required forms and document all the changes or updates.
Perform regular reviews of the outstanding forms to confirm they are concluded.
Participate in the preparation of project specific inspection points plan.
Establish site specific erection and safety plans.
Prepare close out reports and share lessons learned with the project team.
Making sure the work is accurately inspected and documented.
Provide assessment of estimating accuracy and prepare relevant analyses.
Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, owners, contractors and subcontractors, and prepare studies on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
Manage and co-ordinate construction projects and prepare construction progress schedules.
Provide assessment of estimating accuracy and prepare relevant analyses.
Analyze the design and contract documents.
Develop structure rehabilitation or replacement strategies if necessary.
Perform quantity calculations and cost estimating for parts of the job.
Prepare project documents, reports, and proposals.
Prepare and present information to clients and third parties.
Providing direction to junior engineers and technical support staff.
Ensure project completion within the budget and timeline.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Advanced knowledge of bridge erection schemes and requirements.
Excellent technical, organizational, and planning skills.
Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills with well developed communication and negotiation skills. Communication and strong interpersonal skills are requisite.
A solid attention to detail with the ability to be a problem solver.
The ability to work independently or as a member of a team.
Ability to work on large project with proven time management skills.
A strong work ethic to complete tasks in a high quality manner.
Excellent knowledge of applicable design codes.
Total familiarity and understanding of related computer applications including spreadsheet and scheduling software.
Ability to assume responsibility and to interface and communicate effectively with others, have strong interpersonal skills and be self-motivated.
Experience/Qualifications
8+ years of professional experience supervising trades and/or managing subcontractors.
Experience in the detail planning and design for construction schemes including crane, rigging, false work and heavy lifting operations (up to hundreds or thousands of tons).
Familiarity with relevant agency/regulatory approval processes as pertaining to bridge engineering.
Proven experience in bridge structure works, condition surveys, and construction supervision.
Experience in the construction of heavy steel structures (construction of large span bridges usually includes these aspects).
Prior experiencing working for a major steel contractor or construction company involved with large span steel bridges is highly desirable.
A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management (not mandatory).
Certified Red Seal Ironworker (preferred, not mandatory)
Experience in working in multi joint venture environment.
Comfortable working in a disciplined and international environment.
Truck, laptop, phone, extended healthcare, RRSP.
