General Information
The Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD) is now accepting applications from prospective candidates to work as a Summer Camp Leader at the Kerry Park Recreation Centre for summer 2024 in the South Cowichan Recreation Division. This is a great opportunity for those seeking to gain experience in the recreation and childcare field. Our summer positions provide the opportunity for you to learn and be mentored by experienced staff, gain valuable coaching feedback/support throughout your employment and gain valuable training courses that can be utilized in our future careers. Working under the supervision of the Programs & Marketing Coordinator, Summer Camp Leaders provide direct leadership, instruction and supervision in a varied and comprehensive program for children ages 5 – 12. There is an educational component to daily activities to encourage protection of the environment and promote active, healthy lifestyles where many activities take place in our natural environments. The CVRD is committed to providing a positive work environment that embraces diversity. The adventure camp program is facilitated both on-site and off-site and candidates holding a class 4 license will be expected to drive groups of children to off-site venues using CVRD vehicles.
Qualifications
Hours of Work
This position is available for a period of 10 weeks commencing June 24, 2024 and continuing until August 30, 2024, subject to enrolment and funding. Hours of work are 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. There may be opportunities to retain casual employment throughout the year if you have a desire to further your work experience in the recreation field.
Salary
This temporary position is unionized (CUPE Local 358), and is compensated at $28.14 per hour, which is $24.58 per hour plus 6% pay in lieu of vacation, 6% pay in lieu of benefits and 2.5% pay in lieu of statutory holidays. Should it not be possible to hire a fully qualified applicant with a Class 4 Driver’s License this position may instead be filled at a wage rate of $25.63 per hour which is $22.38 per hour plus 6% pay in lieu of vacation, 6% pay in lieu of benefits and 2.5% pay in lieu of statutory holidays.
