Duties

Assists with field work, ecological monitoring, data management, and human-wildlife conflict prevention services for Parks Canadas field operations. Based in Kouchibouguac National Park, the successful candidate will assist our ecologists and technicians with ecological research, wildlife/vegetation monitoring and environmental assessments.

Work environment

Kouchibouguac National Park extends over -square-kilometres of Maritime Plain Natural Region along New Brunswicks scenic Acadian Coast. This mosaic of salt marshes, peat bogs, freshwater systems, Acadian woodland and sandy beaches has long captivated guests, one generation to the next.

Hundreds of species of birds, dozens of mammals as well as amphibians, reptiles, rare plants and a wide variety of sea life inhabit this park, and the landscape welcomes exploration via its network of gentle hiking and cycling trails. Offshore, shifting sand dunes harbour the endangered piping plover and a colony of grey seals swims in the sea. Stargazing takes a unique perspective in this coastal Dark Sky Preserve. Kellys Beach is one of the regions most popular summertime destinations. And in winter, the snowy side of Kouchibouguac invites soft adventure with cross-country trails and cozy warm-up huts.

The intent of this process is to hire students for the summer at Kouchibouguac National Park.

A covering letter Applicants must clearly demonstrate in their cover letter how they meet the Education and Experience criteria listed in the Statement of Qualifications (see below). EDUCATION:

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary institution and have completed at least one year of studies working towards a degree with specialization in environmental and/or natural sciences or other program related to the position.

EXPERIENCE:

- Experience working with the public;
- Experience working in a team environment;
- Experience gathering and entering field data;
- Experience working in the field.

- Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/ territorial holidays;
- Willingness to wear a Parks Canada uniform and prescribed protective equipment when required;
- Willingness to work and/or travel in varied terrain and weather conditions by various means of transportation (Motorized boat and ATV as passenger only);
- Possession of a valid Driver's license;
- Possession of a valid First Aid and CPR certification;

Conditions of employment

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

- Reliability Status security clearance;
- Parks Canada prohibits smoking or vaping in the workplace.
