The Aberdeen Hospital, in New Glasgow, is seeking hospitalists to join their team. There is an opportunity for applicants to engage in research and/or have medical teaching positions with Dalhousie University, should that be of interest. The current remuneration arrangement is a set daily rate as per the provincial hospitalist agreement with a stipend, plus fee-for-service billings for on-call work.
At the Aberdeen, 4.5 hospitalist lines and a group of community family physicians that admit their own patients, will cover inpatient care outside the ICU. Each hospitalist line consists of approximately 18 patients. Patients are spread across several units in the hospital and are composed of medical patients outside of the ICU and telemetry and surgical patients attended to with support of appropriate specialist physicians. Daytime coverage is 8am to 5pm and on-call coverage is 5pm to 8am, not exceeding 1 in 4 nights. The Aberdeen Hospital is approximately 1.5 hours from the region's tertiary care pediatric facility, the IWK Health Centre, which provides neonatal support.
