General SummaryUnder general direction of the Product Engineering Mgr, the Product Development Technician is an integral team member for evaluating sourced new products and inhouse design products. This includes usability, performance, serviceability, and reliability studies. In addition, this individual is a technical resource on quality control issues and after sales & service issues for Danby Products Limited/Inc. This involves both answering of technical question and training Danby staff on technical details and functionality of our products.Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesEvaluations of new products as part of the NPI process.Training of groups and individuals on the technical details and functionality of our products.Track and resolve open issues pertaining to new product launches, develop control documents and other Customer required quality documentation.Responsible for internal systems audit.Liaison with Customers on quality issues, travel to customer location to orchestrate, sort, confirm issues and conduct investigation.Provide written technical responses to Customers on quality issues, i.e., CAR, 8D, 5 Why, etc.Responsible for trouble shooting problem product areas.Deconstructs product to view inner workings and to determine problem areas.Issues recommendations on findings of problemsCoordinates remedies through the Manager, Product Quality and ComplianceResponsible for providing input and recommendations with regards to new product development.Provides ideas and opinions concerning new product ventures.Conducts product testing on competitive products, samples and new products and reports results. Provides suggestions and recommendations to improve products.Reports areas of concern, deficiency and complianceResponsible for advising Danby Products on quality control issues.Assists Danby products with quality control issues when required.Issues findings and recommendations on Q.C. issuesAssists with the resolution to Q.C. problems.Responsible for assisting in after sales & service related challenges.Acts as a liaise between the Production and Refurbishing Supervisor and the Technicians to trouble shoot products to be refurbished.Supports Danby Tech Line for Field Service TechsResponsible for completing miscellaneous projects as requested.Completes special projects as assigned. KnowledgeThorough knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems is essential to the position. Knowledge of current safety and environmental legislation is required. Education or training in quality control and HVAC is an asset to the position.SkillAbility to work on 120V appliances in a safe manner.Ability to charge/discharge refrigerant from a refrigeration appliance.Ability to communicate in a clear and effective manner both in written and verbal correspondence.Ability to utilize problem-solving and analytical skills to trouble shoot products and apply remedies.Ability to work in an organized manner and prioritize tasks.Ability to work in an efficient and organized manner to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks.Ability to utilize creativity in order to generate ideas on new product development, competitors’ products and to provide improvements and suggestions regarding new product testing.This knowledge and these skills are normally acquired through a minimum of College education in a related discipline such as mechanical/electrical engineering or heating and cooling. Previous experience in a related field is strongly recommended.
