Do you persevere when things don’t go as expected?Apply now www.lafarge.ca/careersAs a Quarry Operative reporting to our Site Manager, you’ll join our operational team to help run the quarry and process plant safely and efficiently.Operation of fixed production plant. Dispatching and controlling the quality of product. Maintaining a high standard of housekeeping keeping areas clean, tidy and hazard free. Deal with all daily issues professionally and liaise with site management on a regular basis. To carry out the daily plant inspections and where a problem exists notify management immediately. Be responsible for the plant assets that are entrusted to you i.e. materials, plant buildings, and equipment and stores used therein and efficient employment of them. Contribute the effective and efficient operation of all plant operations from the primary onwards. React promptly and effectively to site breakdowns by liaising with maintenance and assisting where needed. Monitor and ensure that all production data, plant stoppages, breakdowns, and logs are documented correctly. Inspect, carry out and ensure that plant routines are regularly adhered to and that the cleanliness of the plant mechanism, plant area, adjacent buildings, and equipment are at all times properly and regularly inspected, cleaned in accordance with site instructions. Carry out other reasonable tasks within the scope of your operation and abilities as and when requiredRelationship with OthersReporting to the Production Manager and working alongside various other position to support and learn aspect of the plant.Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program majoring inConcrete Industry Management, Construction Management, Geology or EngineeringFully valid Driver’s License Class G and access to their own vehicleMust also be able to work well as part of a team and independentlyGood computer skills for Windows based softwareStrong analytical, problem solving and organizational skillsTeam oriented and able to work with all levels of the organizationWilling to spend time out in field getting know the business first handAbility to work flexible hours, at times, throughout the summerPhysical Requirements / Working Conditions:Frequent sitting, standing, and walkingSome exposure to dust, noise, and extreme temperatures* ( *not for all majors)While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, grasp, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; climb stairs & ladders; reach with hands and arms; talk, hear and smell. Infrequently the employee is required to work in awkward situations; balance; stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds. Employee must perform work outdoors in all weather conditions, and will work around moving mechanical parts and equipment. Various PPE will include safety boots, reflective clothing, safety glasses, gloves and hard hat.
