Reporting to the Manager, Financial Reporting & Investment, you will beresponsible for acting as a Team Leader for the Investment Team: Designation: Home-BasedBenefits to joining AllstateComplete Group Benefits Program customizable to your needsComprehensive Health and Wellness resourcesStrong Brand Recognition (listed as best Employer with Kincentric since 2012).Working within the community and giving back! for ongoing learning and career development.We work a 37.5 hour work weekAccountabilities:Responsible for the first review of various monthly/quarterly/annual deliverables as well as any ad hoc analysis produced by other team membersProviding training to other team membersActively involved in function teams/projects, acting in an advisory role from an investment reporting operations perspectiveInvestment Reporting:Reviewing journal entries and analyzing various reports and information to ensure all investment information is captured accuratelyProviding accurate and pertinent information needed for statutory financial statements, other regulatory filings, and forecasting purposesResearching and advising on how to appropriately account for investments from an international Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) perspectiveReviewing/performing detailed account reconciliations to ensure investment information is complete and all accounts balanceCompleting review, including reasonableness check of data for obvious discrepanciesResolving discrepancies independently, while advising external parties and cross-functional areas on process improvements to limit future discrepanciesReviewing monthly and quarterly investment reporting (including MIRS, Watchlist, Duration, Market Yields, etc.) in order to support Northbrook and Canadian Financial Reporting Teams to develop accurate consolidated and non-consolidated financial information, as well as to complete other regulatory filing requirementsTaking the lead on investment related inquiries from Head Office and during the external audit, working as a resource to business partnersInvestment Analysis:Monitoring and reporting on monthly investment compliance, as well as any issues with the investment portfolios or cash flows; takes part in monthly compliance meetings with the Financial Controller, the CFO, and the Investment Advisor from head officeDeveloping detailed and meaningful investment analysis, evaluating results against targets and prior years to identify significant issues and provide useful information for decision-making purposesDeveloping/reviewing detailed and relevant sensitivity analysis to provide Senior Management and the Leadership Team with information used for decision-making purposesPerforming ad hoc, value-added and detailed analysis for projectsDrawing conclusions and creating an independent view about causes, either internal or external, of trendsCreating new information templates, tracking tools, databases and retrieval processes, to derive meaningful information for business decision-making purposes. Using this information to recommend improvements. Also training others on the use of the new template/tools/databases/processesOversee Investment ManagementCoordinating and implementing new processes relating to investment systems/databases, new asset managers, or new types of investments, while continuously looking for ways to improve efficiencyEnsuring control mechanisms and processes are in place and recommend changes to that corporate and legislative compliance to policies and requirements are metReviewing investment agreements (investment managers, custodians, investment system) to ensure they are in line with ACG-s policies and expectationsPrimary contact for external business partners, such as the investment managers, for transactions to ensure all investment information is complete and accurateEstablishing and maintaining professional working relationships with appropriate parties including investment managers, Custodians, Banks and Home OfficeInvestment ControlsEnsuring meaningful controls are in place, protecting the integrity of the investment information being reportedQuickly and efficiently resolve conflicting data between different courses to ensure accurate information is reported in the financial statementsAdvising on new controls to be implemented to avoid future discrepancies in data sourceResponsible for implementing, assessing, and adhering to Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) controlsProactively assess, recommend and implement improvement to investment reporting processes and controls:University degree majoring in accounting/business3-5 years of relevant investment accounting and analysis experience, preferably within financial services or insurance industryProfessional accounting designation (e.G. CPA) or equivalent experience considered an assetAdvanced investment knowledge with the ability to research changes in regulations and/or accounting standardsOutstanding written and verbal communication skillsAdvanced analytical skills with an ability to focus on the detailsLeadership and problem solving skillsAbility to prioritize projectsProficient in Microsoft Office with an emphasis on strong Excel, Word and PowerPoint skillsAllstate Canada Group has policies and practices that provide workplace accommodations.
