Duties
Job duties for the Surveillance and Electronic Warfare Technologist include (but are not limited to):
The position is responsible for providing technical support to Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) ship electronic warfare systems including, but not limited to, conduct of trials to assess system performance and developing installation specifications.

The Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) is made up of approximately 8, Regular Force personnel, 4, Reservists and 3, civilian employees.
Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to fill one English essential indeterminate position in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The official location of the position (designated worksite) to be staffed is CFB Halifax and requires full-time onsite attendance.
A pool of qualified candidates may be established and used to staff identical or similar positions within the Department of National Defence.

EDUCATION
ED1. Secondary School Diploma; and completion of an acceptable training program* in electronics technology or the employer-approved alternative**.
*Accredited certification by the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists.
**The employer-approved alternative is an acceptable combination of education, training, and/or experience. Ie. QL6a.

EXPERIENCE
EX1. Recent experience* in the maintenance** of the AN/SLR- Electronic Support Measures System (ELISRA) OR the AN/SLQ- Electronic Countermeasures Set (RAMSES).
EX2. Recent experience* in the maintenance** of the AN/SAS- SIRIUS Infra-Red Search and Tracking System, the AN/URL- Electronic Support Measures Set (SeaSearch), OR the AN/SRD- Direction Finding system.
EX3. Experience in leading of a multi-person group in a project or task that involved obstacles to define and overcome.
EX4. Recent experience* in interpreting and analyzing technical documentation and using test equipment to develop solutions for technical problems.
*Recent experience is defined as within the last 8 years.
**Maintenance is defined as preventive and corrective actions, complex system/equipment assessments, and software system/equipment installation.

Conditions of employment
COE1. Secret Security clearance.
COE2. Willing and able to function in an office environment.
COE3. Willing and able to function in a ship or submarine environment, both alongside and at sea for up to two weeks duration (submarine submerged or surfaced).
COE4. Willing and able to conduct transfers to/from ships at sea, and work at heights.
COE5. Willing and able to travel, both nationally and internationally, for the purposes of work or training.
COE6. Willing and able to work overtime, shift work, and be on call for employment.
COE7. Required to comply with applicable safety regulations and procedures including wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment.
COE8. Willing and able to complete mandatory training which may be self-study, computer-based training (CBT), On-the Job Training (OJT) and classroom settings.
COE9. Willing and able to obtain a valid passport.
