Nature of work :
RA for Prof Stephen Baranyi, regarding how Canada’s commitments to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) are implemented through its international development assistance program.
A. Desk research on: 1) Changes in Canada’s policies to support persons with disabilities and their organizations through its international aid program, with and since the Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP) adopted in 2017; 2) Changes in the percentage of Canada’s ODA allocated to that target population, globally and in priority African partner countries (e.g. Ethiopia, Ghana and Senegal) since 2015; 3) The priority accorded to disability, in Canada’s development cooperation strategies with those countries; 4) A sample of projects with significant disability components, in each country.
B. Analyze those data and produce two or three analytical reports, based on further discussion with the supervisor.
C. Co-draft an academic article on the basis of that data and analysis -- time permitting.
Minimum qualifications :
-Full-time PhD student at FSS, preferably in DVM
-Fluent in English
-Knowledgeable about Canada’s international assistance program and its obligations under the UN CRPD
-Living with a major disability is an asset for this position.
