We’re looking for our next Senior Manager, Tax Reporting & Cost Basis. Could It Be You?
The purpose of the Senior Manager, Tax Reporting is to manage and lead their team. They will oversee the y activities within their team and year-end tax reporting within the department, while ensuring minimum service levels are consistently achieved.
What’s it like working as Senior Manager, Tax Reporting & Cost Basisat Questrade?
Questrade Inc. has multiple client tax reporting obligations to various tax regulators, including the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), Ministère du Revenu du Québec (MRQ) and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). In addition, there are also regulatory obligations to obtain sufficient documentation from the client to identify their tax residency. Based on tax residency, withholding tax obligations must be met.
The Sr. Manager, Tax Reporting works collaboratively within the management group to coordinate the activities of a group of Tax Reporting Analysts and the Tax Reporting Supervisor to successfully meet the business needs. They will lead and ensure projects related to tax reporting matters are completed on time and accurately.
The individual is expected to be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on Canadian and/or US taxation, and act as the central point for client issues and department collaboration. In addition, the individual is expected to review processes and documentation that affects client tax reporting and cost basis, to ensure applicability, completeness and accuracy, with a continuous improvement mindset, keeping a positive client experience front and center.
Managerial:
Manage, lead and motivate the team
Provide strategic direction, oversight and guidance to Management and Supervisory staff
Provide mentorship, coaching and performance feedback
Proactively assess future needs of their teams and develop action plans accordingly
Ensure appropriate succession and development plans have been established
Enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards
Establish strategic goals by gathering pertinent business, service and operations information, identifying a course of action, defining objectives, and evaluating outcomes
Provide strategic leadership on projects and ensure time and accurate completion
Collaborate with peers and employees and other department heads and administrators to identify and implement processing and procedural improvements
Be a role model for staff to deliver high quality service interactions to internal teams and clients and create a positive experience

Develop, implement and maintain metrics, and KPI’s
Primary:
Be the subject-matter expert in all aspects of tax compliance, including Canadian tax, Qualified Intermediaries (QI), Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) and Common Reporting Standard (CRS) requirements, 871(m), 1446, or other withholding and reporting regimes
On behalf of the QI Responsible Officer, coordinate QI periodic review and certification of compliance every three years
Oversee tax slip production & distribution to clients. Extended experience in one or more of the below
Canadian investment slips T5, T3, T5013, T5008
U.S. Investment slips 1099, 1042 and K-1
CRS and FATCA reporting
Lead Canadian & US tax reporting planning and delivery cycle
Ensure all reporting is completed on or before regulatory deadlines
Oversee the reconciliations and tax payments to government revenue agencies
Maintain satisfactory internal and external Audit/Regulatory Reviews
Hold reviews post tax season for the past fiscal year, build in improvements where required
Manage cost basis administration
Conduct internal policy and procedure reviews and updates annually
Support staff in prioritizing work, define outcomes and how successes are measured
Report on operational risk items and action plans
As needed:
Stay current with regulatory environment governing tax responsibilities
Interface with tax authorities on all tax matters, and play a crucial role in ensuring that Questrade’s brand and reputation is protected by adhering to our compliance and risk framework

So are YOU our next Senior Manager, Tax Reporting & Cost Basis? You are, if you have…
8+ years of experience in tax processing and reporting within the brokerage industry
5+ years of experience in people leadership roles
Experience leading multiple teams of people leaders is strongly preferred
Excellent knowledge of Canadian and/or US tax reporting and filing processes
Excellent writing, oral presentation and tax research skills
Detail oriented and excellent organizational and time management skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment
Passionate about delivering quality customer service
University or post-graduate degree in related field (e.g. Finance, Accounting), or equivalent
Knowledge of Broadridge BPS and TFP systems is an asset
Working knowledge of dividends & income processing, reorg
Experience with book of records systems and back-office systems
Tax related courses or industry designations such as CPA or In-depth tax program is an asset
