Position Description
:Operational activities include but are not limited to: timely review and revision of clinical and administrative policies and procedures to ensure that they are reflecting the unique needs of First Nations, Inuit and Métis staff, patients, families and visitors; consult with key stakeholders in clinical and administrative functions on policies and procedures needed to coordinate all necessary approvals through established channels and committees; design and develop a new tool for screening existing policies so that future policy reviews incorporate anti-Indigenous racism, reconciliation, and Indigenous cultural safety lenses in its practice; develop an approach to monitoring, reporting and evaluating the impact of CAMH’s policy work; and lead policy development to guide areas of advocacy for Shkaabe Makwa. This role includes the analysis of new municipal, provincial and federal policies as they apply to the work of Shkaabe Makwa and CAMH. The role also includes the writing of briefs, position papers and public policy documents. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position is located at the Queen Street site.
Qualifications:
This position requires the incumbent to be First Nations, Inuit or Métis. The successful candidate will have Master’s degree in health, public policy, social services, community development, planning or public health and a minimum of five years of experience in a healthcare and/or policy setting, mental health or addictions, research, government or academic environments. You will have knowledge of traditions, cultures and values of First Nations, Inuit and Métis, and an understanding of how these can be embedded and reflected in policies and protocols in a healthcare setting. Previous experience building restorative and beneficial relationships in a clinical setting and in the workplace is an asset. An extensive knowledge of historical and intergenerational trauma and how trauma manifests in mental health and addiction challenges for Indigenous peoples is required. You will have understanding of measures that contribute to healing such as language, ceremonies, traditional healing practices, cultural protocols, community kinship. You have experience with policy analysis, review and development that promotes First Nations, Inuit and Métis cultural safety and wellness and have experience developing policy screening tools and/or ability to identify existing tool/s that can be applied and utilized at CAMH. Experience in developing training materials and facilitating training with a small audience is required in addition to project management and coordination skills. You have experience establishing partnerships with local, provincial and national Indigenous-led/Indigenous-focused organizations and demonstrated judgement in working with diverse partners both within CAMH and with external partners. Bilingualism in French/English or an Indigenous language would be an asset. This position may require travel throughout Ontario, including remote First Nations.
