Providing the highest level of excellence, MNP is a leading national accounting, tax and business consulting firm in Canada. Our Tax team works with individuals and organizations in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors providing comprehensive strategies that minimize risk, meet tax compliance and reporting requirements, drive efficiencies and maximize returns. Specifically, our Indirect Tax team develops tax-minimizing strategies that help businesses formulate, implement and manage indirect tax issues.Performance ExpectationsParticipate multiple client facing engagement teams responsible for GST/HST and sales tax planning and management servicesAssist in interpreting and demonstrating Indirect Tax legislation (GST/HST and PST) on extremely complex tax related issuesResponsible for quality deliverables such as client interactions, reports, technical work, and management presentationsCorrespond with clients and various government agencies to address client tax compliance issuesReview, investigate and correct discrepancies and irregularities in financial entries and reports Research client issues that arise and refer to various Indirect Tax mandatesContribute to the preparation and delivery of competitive proposals to meet client needsCollaborate with client engagement team prior to commencement of client work to discuss roles and responsibilities, risk areas, materiality and deadlinesThink strategically about client needs by understanding their business and key risksIdentify ways to maximize the relationship with clients and deliver added valueMaintain high quality control by reviewing tax returns and other work done from other team members for accuracy and completeness; provide feedback to team membersMonitor project timelines against targets, adjust where necessary; advise clients of project status and seek clarification on discrepancies where applicableNetwork and take a leadership role in the local professional, business, and community while raising awareness of MNP and looking for new business development opportunitiesContribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processesPromote regular attendance, balanced lifestyle and high standard of team wellnessAttend internal MNP courses to further develop accounting and assurance knowledgeStudy for CPA while working; effectively manage both work and studiesCredentialsPossess a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce or Business Administration (Accounting and/or Finance major is preferred)Bilingual (English and French, written and spoken)Completion of CPA designation or working towards a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation; completion of CFE examination and working towards relevant practical experience requirements will also be consideredTwo (2) to four (4) years of relevant work experience in public accounting or taxExperience working with, or exposure to, accounting and tax software such as Caseware, Profile, Quickbooks and Simply Accounting is preferredWorking knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax ActStrong computer literacy including effective working skills of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPointSome travel may be requiredCore Competencies and Personal CharacteristicsIntegrity – professional whose honesty, integrity, confidentiality and high ethical standards contributes to effective leadership and optimal business relationshipsEnergy – displays enthusiasm, optimism, drive and passion while maintaining a high level of productivity and a balanced lifestyleDiversity – understands the importance of different backgrounds, perspectives and experiences and is respectful of individual differencesCommunication – effectively expresses ideas and conveys information in business writing, conversations and interactions with othersClient Service Excellence – understands the importance of quality client service by being courteous, responding to client requests in a timely manner and monitoring satisfactionTeamwork & Relationship Development – works collaboratively with team members in order to achieve a common goal and develops, maintains and strengthens relationships with others, both inside and outside the FirmAccountability – takes responsibility for one’s own performance by setting clear goals and tracking progress against those goals; is highly organized and uses personal judgement and decision makingFlexibility – effectively manages multiple assignments, adapts to changing priorities and is able to work independently or as part of a teamMNP encourages a balanced lifestyle and offers benefits that suit the way our team members work and play!
