:073 Corrections Policing and Public SafetySalary Range:$28.118-$35.239HourlyGrade:SGEU.08.The Ministry of Correction, Policing and Public Safety has a challenging opportunity for a highly motivated individual who is a team player and interested in a rewarding career as a Special Constable - Scale Officer. Your primary goal will be to protect the highway infrastructure and ensure the safety of all highway users by monitoring commercial vehicle compliance with National Safety Code requirements and Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance standards. This goal will be achieved through the operation of permanent Commercial Vehicle Inspection Stations.
As a Scale Officer, you will enforce transportation legislation, policies and agreements for commercial vehicles traveling on Saskatchewan’s provincial highway system. You will be responsible for checking commercial vehicle operators for licensing, certification and insurance and inspecting commercial vehicles for safety, weights, dimensions, permits and registration. You will be responsible for conducting inspections, laying charges, appearing in court, conducting investigations, and preparing reports. Your exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, promotion of a cooperative work environment and innovative approach will be required in order to interact with team members, other enforcement and government agencies, as well as the commercial transportation industry.
The successful candidate will be required to work shift work, some travel with overnight stays away from your headquarters, hold a valid First Aid Certificate (including AED) and hold a valid Class 5 driver's license in good rating.
You will be required to successfully complete all training related to commercial vehicle enforcement, including the CVSA North American Standard Inspectors' course and complete use of force training to the standard of the Saskatchewan Police College.
To qualify for this position, you will:
Candidates who are successful through the application process will be required to successfully complete 14 weeks of mandatory Community Safety Officer and Commercial Vehicle Training.
