Job Description:
As a member of the Surgery team, the Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is responsible for enhancing the care of surgical patients. As an experienced perioperative registered nurse, with specialized education, knowledge and skills, they practice in collaboration with and under the direction of the surgeon. Clinical expertise is leveraged in pre, intra and post-operative phases of the surgical experience. Key to this role is maintaining excellence in nursing practice and being accountable to the patient’s safety, participation in education and identification of opportunities for quality improvements. The RNFA is positioned to support the organization’s strategic plan, mission and vision for better access, quality and sustainability of surgical services. The RNFA will participate in program and hospital-wide initiatives to create better health care for all.
Qualifications:
RNFA certification required Current certification with the College of Nurses of Ontario required ACLS certification required Perioperative Nursing certificate (CPN(C)) required Minimum of 5 years nursing expertise in obstetrical and/or perioperative nursing required Provide leadership and excellence in collaborative perioperative nursing care through the components of: expert clinical practice, consultation, education, research and leadership Provide the integration of nursing and medical skills and knowledge within the broad scope of enhanced nursing practice. The RNFA practices in collaboration with and at the direction of the surgeon during the pre, intra, and post-operative phases of the perioperative experience Demonstrated consistency in respectful communication, diplomacy and approachability Superior interpersonal, organizational, prioritization and problem-solving skills Evidence of ongoing and recent professional development and a commitment to life-long learning Experience developing/delivering patient teaching materials/programs Satisfactory attendance and performance record required
