Wright Tree Service of Canada’s operations include safety-sensitive positions and safety-sensitive worksites. Each employee, contractor, subcontractor and supplier performing work or carrying out work on Wright Tree Service of Canada’s behalf, where the work includes a safety-sensitive position or is performed or carried out at a safety-sensitive worksite, must have, administer and enforce an alcohol and drug policy and testing program.

This position will be located throughout Drayton Valley, Edson, Whitecourt, Alberta.
Responsibilities (but not limited to):
Inspect, identify, and evaluate trees and brush along electric ROWs.
Uses a chainsaw to cut brush, logs and stumps of larger trees.
Loads and unloads trucks with logs, stumps, brush and debris and/or feeds brush into a woodchipper.
Gathers brush and carry to chipper area.
Helps enforce on-the-job safety practices for crew members.
Safeguards employees and public from hazards in and around the work area. Cooperates with customer, police, and fire departments when blocking streets or driveways. Sets up barriers, warning signs, flags, etc. to protect employees as well as the public. Trained to perform tree and bucket rescue.
Applies herbicides and growth regulators to stumps and brush.
Drives a truck with an attached brush chipper or other trailing unit such as trailer, etc.
Keeps work area picked up and orderly.
Carries and lays out tools and equipment at work site.
Services truck, chipper and equipment, maintaining them in a neat, clean, and specified mechanical order.
Reports the need for equipment and truck maintenance to crew foreman or General Foreman.
Assist during emergency response times such as storms or fires as needed.
Effective reporting of all problems, incidents, and accidents to the supervisor.
Use climbing equipment to climb and work at varying heights cutting, trimming and pruning trees.
Perform other job-related duties as required or assigned.
Requirements:
Must adhere to Wright Tree Service of Canada’s “Employee/ Contractor Smoking, Alcohol and Drug Policy Minimum Requirements” handbook.
Experience in working around hazardous equipment.
Working around excessive noise from machines, chainsaws, wood chipper and must wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
Is exposed to all temperatures and weather; will be exposed to nature, , irritating plants, biting or stinging insects, dust, etc.
May work on rough terrain.
Needs to be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times per day.
Must be able to write, read, and comprehend written and verbal job instructions/information.
Must be able to communicate with others with respect and comprehend written and verbal job instructions or information while representing Wright Tree Service of Canada in a professional manner.
Possess the ability to lift, move, and maneuver up to 50 pounds on an infrequent basis and up to 30 pounds on a frequent basis.
Valid class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record, air brakes endorsement a plus.
Ability to work long hours and overtime during emergencies (including holidays, weekends, storm work) and will be subject to call-out work.
Ability to operate and service all required tools and equipment.
Maintain an herbicide applicator or operator’s certification and license as required by Wright Tree Service of Canada and local, and provincial law.
Must have valid First-Aid and CPR cards.
Ability to work independently and self-motivate with good time management.
Flexibility with traveling in and out of town, via plane and/or vehicle.
Proficient in map navigation skills and orienteering.
Assistance may be required during major storm events.
Applicant must pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.
