Wage Benefits :
• Wage employees receive 11.2% in addition to regular wage earnings in lieu of benefits and vacation leave.
• 5.2 percent of regular wage earnings instead of paid holidays.
• 6 percent of regular wage earnings instead of annual vacation pay.
• Weekend shifts are eligible for a premium of $3.25 per hour.
• Evening shifts are eligible for a premium of $2.75 per hour.

Role Responsibilities
Embark on a fulfilling journey as a Fish Culture Technician and contribute to the heart of Alberta's fisheries legacy! Reporting to the Facility Technician or Supervisor, you will be a crucial part of a dynamic team working collaboratively to ensure the success of the provincial fish culture stocking program. Your responsibilities will span a range of impactful tasks, including the meticulous care of fish rearing units, the distribution of cultured fish to designated water bodies, and the maintenance of fish culture equipment.
Your role involves maintaining optimal conditions for fish health and growth through hatchery techniques, such as cleaning rearing units, monitoring water quality, and handling adult fish. Additionally, you will play a vital part in the maintenance and repair of facility equipment/ loading stocking trucks with fish and assist in stocking select lakes.
Stocked lakes support approximately 25% of all angling activity in the province which represents an economic impact of over 166 million dollars annually. The four major fish culture facilities in the province stock approximately 300 water bodies each year. The successful rearing and distribution of fish directly affects the recreational value of angling for the public and supports positive angling experiences.
This position offers a unique blend of technical expertise, public engagement, and conservation impact. As a Fish Culture Technician, you will contribute to public education, delivering presentations, and increasing awareness of provincial fisheries. Your role will extend to supporting regional fisheries offices in program assessments and improvements, working closely with field staff, biologists, and conservation associations. Be a part of an inclusive team working towards the common goal of conserving Alberta's rich aquatic resources and providing recreational opportunities for the public.
