/ / Correctional Caseworker Community: KugluktukReference number: 05-507925Type of employment: Union Status: Salary: $96,424 to $109,458 per year, 42 hours/weekNorthern Allowance: $22,042 per yearClosing Date: Friday, September 22, 2023 - 11:59pmReporting to the Deputy Warden Operations and Programs, the Correctional Caseworker is responsible for maintaining the security and safety of clients within a designated area pursuant to established Department/Division/Facility policies, procedures and standards. This position is also responsible for case management and for performing other specialized duties within a correctional facility as required. Correctional Caseworkers will serve in a dual role that holds a greater focus on programming and case management of the clients within Kugluktuk Ilavut Centre. This position is responsible for maintaining a primary case load of 2-3 clients as well as being in a secondary role for an equal number of clients. These roles serve as an intricate part of the client’s community-based programs and all release considerations.
The Correctional Caseworker is the key component of a successful facility. Correctional Caseworkers must have good interpersonal skills and be able to deescalate assertive behavior without personalizing the conflict. Correctional Caseworkers are held to a higher standard both on and off duty, and are expected to contribute to, and participate in an engaged and professional work culture.
This position is subject to rotational shift work that is a condition of employment.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job would be obtained through completion High School Diploma or equivalent (Pass, GED) with a minimum of 6 months experience in Corrections or related social field, and experience utilizing a personal computer and associated software application, such as Microsoft word, outlook.
Possession of a Class 5 driver’s license must be obtained within the probationary period.
First Aid + CPR certification, Knowledge of WHIMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) and Familiarity with the Case Management procedures, facility rules and routines are to be obtained during a six-month probationary period as well.
Related experience in a correctional services environment, related experience in a social, or health support services environment, related experience in Mental Health and Wellness would be considered as assets. Also, updated First Aid + CPR certification is preferred.
This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.
