About therole
This position in the Property Claims Unit is responsible for handling various types of commercial property claims, including damage to manufacturing, commercial operations, and retail risks. The role involves handling claims from first notice through to closure and in accordance with Best Practice guidelines. Claims are primarily across Canada, with limited worldwide exposures. Some travel could be necessary for site visits, market meetings, or mediations.
You will join an experienced team of Analysts, some of whom have been with AIG for over 10 years or longer. This position is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada (or Montreal, Quebec) and reports to the Property Claims Unit Manager
What you need toknow:Review complex property claims in conjunction with policy wordings to determine appropriate cover
Provide direction to adjusters, and other experts in investigation of claims
Prepare reservation of rights letters and or denials when necessary, and have communication with underwriters, brokers and insureds when applicable
Liaise with underwriting and other departments when needed
Provide instruction to legal counsel, (if retained)
Participate in mediation or other settlement conferences to bring about resolution of claim
Negotiate settlements directly where possible
Issue payments within appropriate time frames
Operate within our best practices guidelines, including timely reserve review, notes, payment requests, electronic diary
Inform management of all complaints, large losses, coverage issues, etc.
What we’re looking for:Minimum of 10+ years of claims handling experience
College/University or equivalent industry experience
Experience in managing complex property files and the ability to make decisions and give directions to counsel and/or adjusters
Strong negotiating skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
Ability to multi-task and work effectively and cooperatively in a fast-paced busy team environment
Ability to manage workload effectively and efficiently/ability to prioritize is essential
Proficient computer skills in navigating paperless claim file system
AMF License 5A for Quebec candidates
Fluently bilingual (English/French) is considered an asset
Travel:Limited, and on an as-needed basis
