:020 Labour Relations and Workplace SafetySalary Range:$8,531-$11,088MonthlySalary Supplement:10%Grade:MCP.09.The Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety is seeking a highly motivated individual with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to join the Occupational Health and Safety Branch as Chief Mines Inspector. This senior leadership position reports directly to the Executive Director.
In this senior position you will act as the chief technical officer in relation to the Mines regulations. You will lead the Branch planning regarding rational for changes to mines regulations and responses to stakeholder feedback; you will interpret regulations for officers and stakeholders in the mining industry; you will grant approvals as required by the Mines regulations for numerous activities; you will review environmental impact statements, mining proposals and mining plans; you will negotiate with federal agencies and manage OHS regulation of uranium mines.
You will effectively develop and manage projects that are outcome based, data driven and related to key areas of need in the OHS Branch, and/or the mining industry. You will advise the Executive Director on appropriate strategies to effectively address issues, concerns and opportunities related to stakeholders in the mining industry.
As the Chief Mines Inspector, you will lead a team of professionals in the enforcement of The Mining Regulations, 2018, as well as the Occupational Health and Safety portion of The Saskatchewan Employment Act and The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020. You will be responsible for achievement of their objectives, ensuring well trained and professional staff and mines unit contribution to overall goals of the OHS Branch.
You will be results oriented and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to understand and respond to the multiple demands. You will exercise superior judgment in a continuously changing and demanding environment. You will have strong analytical and problem solving skills. You will have the experience and ability to effectively manage and lead staff. You will have strong interpersonal and communication skills that will allow you to establish relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders when representing the branch and ministry.
This position will be of particular interest to an individual looking for a challenging role with non-traditional hours, the ability to travel throughout the province and flexibility in how they schedule their hours and days of work.
Under The Saskatchewan Employment Act, the Chief Mines Inspector is required to be a professional engineer or professional geoscientist who is licensed to practice in Saskatchewan and has experience in the mining industry. The successful candidate will have a broad range of experience in soft rock and hard rock mining in Saskatchewan as they each have unique technical issues that the Chief Mines Inspector must address in enforcing the legislation.
Please note, salary supplement is provided for Professional Engineering or Professional Geoscientist Designation.
