The Burnaby Board of Trade (BBOT) is the city's most active networking, advocacy, and economic development organization, bringing together over 1,100 local businesses and entrepreneurs to work at 'making business better'. It is from this understanding that BBOT draws its commitment to the triple bottom line of economic, social, and environmental sustainability, and fulfills its vital role as the catalyst, convener, and champion of a thriving business community—and the community as a whole.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will be accountable for the development and implementation of a strategic plan that establishes priorities for developing and delivering programs to benefit members from networking and educational programs to cost-savings, DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion), sustainability initiatives, building membership, advocating for policies and tax reform that supports the growth of SMBs, large enterprises, and a livable community. The CEO will provide a tangible contribution to the economic development initiatives taking shape and spearhead a culture of innovation and creativity in forging strategic partnerships with key individuals, organizations, businesses, and governments both regionally and globally to ensure a sustainable future for the city. In delivering on this mandate, the CEO will provide leadership and vision to a team of 9 passionate and committed employees, manage in accordance with the board policy, and deliver established financial objectives. Delivering a triple bottom line is critical to the mission and long-term sustainability of the BBOT.
The ideal candidate is an experienced, high-energy, and entrepreneurial-minded leader who has over their career led government relations, partnership development, and policy-oriented roles within a chamber, professional or industry association, public institution, or business. They have demonstrated their ability to advance programs and initiatives, create partnerships, and drive growth. They understand the role that both SMBs and large enterprise plays in a vibrant and progressive community. The new CEO will bring broad management expertise and business acumen that is directly related to the leadership of a service-oriented /member-driven organization. They can relate to both the BBOT’s commercial nature and public policy mandate and possess the ability to balance and integrate the two. An entrepreneurial spirit combined with strong business acumen is essential in this role.

In accordance with BC’s Pay Transparency Act, the expected base salary range for this role is $125,000-$160,000 per year plus bonus.
