Additional Salary Information
Positions are entitled to Inmate Training Differential allowance which may range from 7-10% of the salary in the position staffed and a $2, Correctional Services Special Duty Allowance annually.

Work environment
As a Carpenter within Correctional Service Canada (CSC) you will be responsible for the provision of carpentry maintenance services, construction, alterations, repair of buildings and infrastructures for
facilities of CSC.
The position you are applying for is located in a federal correctional institution, Beaver Creek Institution, where you will be responsible for supporting the maintenance of the institution while directly supervising and training offenders.
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the courts. CSC is responsible for managing institutions of various security levels and supervising offenders under conditional release in the community.

Intent of the process
The intent of this process is to identify qualified candidates for current and anticipatory staffing needs for carpenter positions with Correctional Service Canada - Gravenhurst, ON.
Staffing needs include permanent, temporary (term) and casual (maximum 90 working days in a calendar year) employment opportunities.

Possession of a valid Provincial or Interprovincial Journeyperson Carpenter Certificate in the designated province of work or certification accepted by the provincial governing body as an equivalent

EDCUCATION
A secondary school diploma or a satisfactory score on the Public Service Commission test or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience
Successful completion of any work-related continuing education courses related to facility maintenance or workplace safety
EXPERIENCE
Experience working in a correctional environment
Experience supervising individuals
Experience training individuals
Recent* experience as a carpenter, cabinetmaker, wood, or other material patternmaker
Experience interpreting schematics and building furniture or other products to meet client demands
Experience in the use of precision tools and instruments used in carpentry
*Recent is defined as within the last five years

SELECTION PROCESS STAGES
This selection process has three stages:
Stage 1 - Screening
The applications will be reviewed (screened), specifically the responses to the three questions assessing the essential qualifications, imbedded in this job advertisement. Resumes are considered a secondary source of information during screening.
Note: Candidate responses to the asset qualifications may be reviewed at this stage.
Stage 2 - Interview
Interviews, may be completed in person or by Microsoft (MS) Teams.
Proof of your occupational certification (trade ticket) will be required at the interview stage.
Stage 3 - Reference Checks
Two references will be requested in Stage 2.
Depending on the number of applications, pulls from this inventory may occur on a weekly basis.
For this selection process, it is our intention to communicate with candidates via email for screening and assessment purposes. This will include communication of results and invitations to interviews. To that end, candidates must include a valid email address in their application. Candidates must meet all of the essential qualifications noted in the Statement of Merit Criteria to be appointed to a position. Candidates identified for assessment may be selected randomly from applications submitted. Management intends to pull randomly selected groups of applications on a regular basis while the inventory is posted. Preference will be given to veterans first and then to Canadian citizens and permanent residents, with the exception of a job located in Nunavut, where Nunavut Inuit will be appointed first.
