Reporting to the Business Operations Manager, the Academic and Settlement Advisor meets students where they're at, providing clear pathways for students to transition into post-secondary programs, monitoring and advising students regarding their academic progression. Working closely with the faculty members and other college departments the Academic and Settlement Advisor will establish and maintain a network of partnerships with service providers in government, community organizations, and other stakeholder groups to create an awareness of emerging trends, issues, and developments affecting LINC and international students.

    HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE: + Organize pathways events, activities,and connections for LINC students. + Support current NorQuest LINC students within the faculty on their journey laddering into other foundational and/or post-secondary programs.

+ Provide on-going supports for and monitor Bridging to Post Secondary students. + Liaise with the NorQuest Students Association for cultural, extracurricular events, and workshops for international student success.

+ Provide support to the International Office with student acculturation and settlement services. + Contribute to the International Office e-newsletters for international students.

+ Supervise work-integrated field placements for Settlement Studies students. + Monitor grades for International Students at mid-term point for at-risk students.

+ Run daily matriculation report and email assembled “toolkit” to students. + Liaise with the International office and Work Integrated Learning Career Education Centre to ensure that oo-op work permits have been received.

+ Liaise with external organizations to support community engagement for students, connecting students with external resources. + Refer students to appropriate resources both internal and external.

e.g.

counsellors, food bank, emergency bus tickets,the Alumni office, 211, community and settlement resources available through organizations in their communities. + Advise students on the steps to obtaining Foreign Credential Recognition.

+ Advise students on Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition pathways. + Provide general learner onboarding and orientation.

+ Provide advice, information, and assistance in person, over the phone, and electronically to current LINC and International students. + Participate in college events such as open house, info night, program orientation, and international orientation.

WHAT YOU BRING: + Completion of a related undergraduate degree preferable or a combination of education and experience in the Settlement field. + 2+ years' experience advising in a post-secondary setting.

This is a full-time term position to June 30, 2023 and includes immediate access to our great benefits program. This position will require regular on-campus work at our Downtown Edmonton location.
