Talascend is currently seeking a Principal Nuclear Design and Shielding Engineer for a long-term contract career opportunity, 100% remote.

OVERVIEW:

This role involves radiation shielding design and analysis for advanced nuclear reactors, including floating nuclear power plants and MCFR fuel cycle facilities. The engineer will mentor nuclear design engineers and serve as an independent radiation transport subject matter expert.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Develop and analyze shielding models for nuclear systems.

Calculate dose rates, energy deposition, and gas production rates.

Perform materials activation analysis for non-fuel in-vessel components.

Provide guidance on shielding strategies for novel nuclear applications.

Support reactor design teams in understanding shielding requirements.

Work within regulatory guidelines for nuclear reactor design.
