Machinist job duties and responsibilities

A machinist should expect to perform many different duties, which can include:

• Grind or cut plastic, metal or other materials.


• Produce parts for mechanical equipment such as motor vehicles or aircraft.


• Work in machine shops making small parts to help repair mechanical tools.


• Read and understand design instructions, making precise measurements for needed parts.


• Inspect machined parts and tooling in order to maintain quality control standards.
