The purpose of this position is to create new knowledge for academia and industry in the field of railway engineering, focusing on the lifecycle management of turnouts. The doctoral researcher will develop mathematical models for turnout aging curves, explore key influencing parameters, and assist the industry in transitioning from corrective to predictive maintenance.
As a doctoral researcher you will: 1) become familiar with the problem through literature review and collaboration with the partner company, Vossloh Switch Systems, and the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency; 2) develop mathematical models of the turnout life cycle to evaluate remaining useful life; 3) disseminate results through peer‑reviewed journals, conferences, and industry events; 4) perform approximately 5 % teaching duties; and 5) participate in DSII events, excursions, meetings, and training sessions.
