General Work DescriptionA Deputy Sheriff (Bailiff) with the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office must be 20 years of age and complete the Basic Law Enforcement Training Class (B. L. E. T.), pass and obtain a B. L. E. T. Certificate. Duties include making arrests, forcibly if necessary, using handcuffs and other restraints, and self‑defense weapons when people are breaking the law, preparing investigative reports using proper grammar, exercising independent judgement, operating a law enforcement vehicle day and night in emergency situations, communicating effectively and coherently over law enforcement radio channels, possessing the ability to load, unload and fire handguns and shotguns under stress that justifies the use of deadly force and at levels of proficiency prescribed in certification standards.
