The System Engineering Technician works with the Integration Team to assemble, test and troubleshoot equipment and systems that will be delivered to customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Integrate COTS and MOTs equipment OEM installation guidance and Thales systems integration design

  • Ensure all systems integration work is completed in accordance with company practices and procedures

  • Assist in the preparation of company practices and procedures to control consistency and quality of work in the integration area

  • Maintain control of integration tools and test equipment

  • Advise on physical layout and usage of the integration area

  • Assist in preparation of drawings

  • Implement and execute system test cases

  • Analyze and evaluate test results

  • Troubleshoot systems that do not meet requirements

  • Identify installation risks and prepare mitigation strategies

  • Provide inputs to the lab manager for Test Tool equipment budget for the integration lab

  • Support the Systems Engineering group with the assembly, integration, set-to-work and test of systems for contracts or products in the military / civilian markets for domestic / international clients

  • Inspect parts for defects

  • Perform R&O tasks i.e. assembly, manufacture, etc.

  • Participate in site preparation, installation and troubleshooting

  • Assemble test platforms and perform test plans

  • Read engineering documents, schematics, and technical orders to determine faults and methods of troubleshooting

  • May require occasional travel within Canada and possibly Overseas

  • Collaborating with other engineering specialists and staff throughout Thales Canada in progressing assigned tasks and facilitating efficient verbal and written communications

  • Ongoing research and knowledge development of ship design and build, as well as on topics in marine environment

  • Assisting with project planning, execution and engineering research as assigned

  • Ability to travel and work at various Thales Canada or customer locations

  • Conducting other duties as reasonably assigned from time to time
     

  • Required Skills and Experience:

  • Engineering Technician or Technologist or equivalent training and experience

  • Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Prior experience in the assembly, integration, set-to-work and test of electronic systems (i.e. communication, networks, navigation, science or combat systems) for military / civilian applications

  • Hands-on experience in an integration lab i.e. rack assembly, cable routing and termination, soldering etc.

  • Previous experience working with teams to solve technical problems

  • High level oral and written communication skills required for report writing and design justification documentation

  • Knowledge of ship systems and design standards for commercial and naval platforms, including familiarity with Class requirements (.e.g. IMO, DNV-GL, SOLAS) and other related regulations (e.g. IEC, Transport Canada) is considered an asset

  • Experience with Microsoft office suite

  • Eligibility for CET is considered an asset

  • French fluency would be an asset
