Software Developer, Co-op (Loblaw Digital)

You’ll often find cookies in the Loblaw Digital office, but we’re still always hungry to build the best digital products to impact customers’ lives. Our team is creating leading e-commerce sites and omni-channel experiences for online grocery (Click & Collect), Shoppers Drug Mart (, and Joe Fresh ( But building and operating the digital channels for Canada’s largest and most successful retailer is just the beginning! Our project portfolio continues to expand with exciting, large-scale projects like Canada’s most popular loyalty program, Clearly the work we do impacts all Canadians.

We are an agile shop, constantly tinkering with our process to make all our lives better. That process includes JIRA Agile for end-to-end agile project management and defects, GitLab for source control and our build pipeline, Terraform and Google Cloud Platform for our deployments, and 15″ Retina MacBook Pro’s for all our developers. We believe in using the right tool for the job, and constantly open to experimenting with different technologies (did we mention our Elixir stack?). We are constantly looking for areas to improve.

  • Java on the backend, with some interesting exploration of Elixir for certain use cases
  •  React on the frontend, accompanied by some server-side JSP rendering, with a focus on responsive design and accessibility throughout
  • Releases weekly at least, with all teams pushing towards multiple deployments dail

  • Job Responsibilities: What will you be doing?

  • Join the development team and work on production-track code on one of our many constantly evolving products
  • Participate in code reviews, design sessions, and solutioning
  • Identify areas of architectural or procedural weakness and champion a solution
  • Work with the QA team to ensure that your code is production-ready
  • Required Skills:

  • We will be looking for students in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or similar programs
  • Mastery of computing and development fundamentals
  • Experience programming in Java or React is preferred
  • Opportunity is available for 3rd and 4th year students
