2 Month Temporary Full-Time Position – Possibility of Extension

Vancouver, BC

The Canadian Red Cross Society, a not for profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to helping people in Canada and throughout the world, is currently seeking a  Site Manager for Downtown Vancouver  in support of contact tracing.

The incumbent of this position supervises and coordinates the work of the CRC team at the site, which may involve several services. Reporting into the Senior Manager, Emergency Management the Site Manager will oversee the team’s planning and organizing, as well as overall quality of the services delivered by the team.

    In this role you will:

  • Lead the assigned Contact Tracing Supervisor team, providing direction and coordination for the day to day management of site activities;
  • Oversee the delivery of services of Canadian Red Cross (CRC) team on site;
  • Brief and debrief the Contact Tracing Supervisors including coordination meetings with Contact Tracing Supervisors;
  • Ensure compliance and provide ongoing feedback to Contact Tracing Supervisors
  • Provide timely formal and informal performance feedback to personnel that report directly to the Site Manager
  • Assume overall responsibility for the financial management, logistics and workforce of the CRC team on site and as required
  • Work with Occupational Health and Safety Advisor to report any serious breaches of protocol and escalation of issues and incidents
  • Liaise and coordinate with other agencies providing services on site;
  • Regularly review the site heath and security plans, in close collaboration with the Sr. Manager or identified SME and the Contact Tracing Supervisors as per Red Cross Technical Standards;
  • Ensure that safety guidelines and procedures are well understood and abided by all personnel;
  • Monitor team capacity/needs and quality according to the changing context of the operation (material, financial and human resources), in collaboration with the Sr. Manager or designate and overall team as appropriate, based on scale of operations;
  • Report regularly on site activities, statistics and issues according to Technical Standards;
  • Participate in the operational debriefing;
  • Ensure appropriate close of business and operations, as appropriate.
  • Establish and maintain regular communications with the local authorities and relevant stakeholders;
  • Represent or ensure appropriate representation of the CRC in coordination meetings, as appropriate;
  • Represent the CRC with media and other organizations, if required;
  • We’re looking for:

  • Completion of College Diploma in a relevant field and/or equivalent experience;
  • Minimum 1-3 years experience supervising a team;
  • Minimum experience of one response operations in a leadership role (example- ERT Supervisor);
  • Understanding of Red Cross role in disaster response, relief and recovery;
  • Commitment to the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross Movement;
  • Computer literacy, mandatory
  • Language requirements vary – responders must be able to deliver services as appropriate
  • Project Management Skills including budget – developing project charters, planning, scheduling, supply management, risk assessment, budgeting, change management, and project control
  • Attention to detail – accuracy in completing forms, giving information, completing necessary paperwork
  • Working Conditions

  • This position is based on site in downtown Vancouver. There is the potential for difficult and unstable conditions (environmental, physical, social, etc.) and uncomfortable conditions (noise, odours, vulnerable clients). These stressful rapidly changing environments with limited information to make decisions have the potential to affect the physical and psychological state of the responders on site.
  • The incumbent may need to stand for several hours.
  • Ability to respond during non-traditional hours (i.e. late night or weekends) and long hours of work in a demanding context.
