Are you experienced in industrial and liquid waste management? Do you have at least 2 years’ experience in a leadership or supervisory role leading teams to achieve safety, environment performance and regulatory compliance? Do you have hands on working knowledge of TDGA, O. Reg. 347 and Ontario Health and Safety Act? The Shift Supervisor will be responsible for the supervision and coordination of chemical plant operators, general labourers and transporters arriving at our Clients waste processing facility, the reporting of all relevant site activities and managing the quality and quantity of work performed. The shift supervisor must be able to prioritize and delegate responsibilities, and interact with others in a clear and concise to ensure facility tasks are completed efficiently, safely, accurately and on-time. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Aid in the treatment and processing of various waste and waste water and ensure it meets discharge requirement of the Region of Peel By-Law 53-2010. Ensure bulk and containerized waste is received, stored processed and based on compatibility, cost and prioritized based on continuous flow Ensure that relevant information is communicated to plant operators, enabling them to effectively carry out their functions Gain a full understanding and working knowledge of the companys standard operating procedures (SOPs), and ensure that all site personnel adhere to them at all times On an ongoing basis, inspect and monitor all works against SOP standards where applicable to ensure the continuing quality and accuracy of work performed Calibrate and setup ICP/GC for lab analysis as required Notify the General Manager or designate of any defects, damages, mistakes, errors, contamination, spills, other incidents or accidents that are identified Act as coach/mentor in assisting Plant operators to develop in their positions. Maintain attendance and discipline of Plant operators including recommendations of disciplinary actions to General Manager or designate for enforcement when necessary Delegate suitable tasks to Plant operators while considering their skill, knowledge and ability and where necessary identify skill gaps and training requirements Lead, motivate and work with crews to complete work assigned by the General Manager or designate efficiently, safely and perform to required workmanship standard. Document and report completion status of work assigned by the General Manager and the incoming shifts supervisor for an appropriate hand-off prior to the end of each shift. Understanding of our site specific Environmental Certificate of Approvals (ECAs) and associated compliance requirements including facility design and operating procedures, waste manifests/bills of lading and handling/storage. Continuing commitment to personal development in technical knowledge including facility operations, waste streams, processing procedures and leadership skills. Other tasks as assigned The successful Candidate will be responsible for: Actively promote a safe work environment and culture Ensure training of workers in safe work practices and job safety requirements. Ensure crew follows safe work practices when operating vehicles and machinery Ensure appropriate TDGA compliant placards/labels are attached to containers and vehicles prior to transport Provide onboarding training to new and/or transferred workers, and reinforcement training to regular employees on appropriate procedures, SOP verbal, written and hands-on. Enforce rules, procedures, safe work and hygiene practices, health and safety standards and use of personal protective equipment. Make employee health and safety performance observations Advise worker of the existence of any known hazards or potential danger to the workers health and safety. Respond to and correct unsafe acts and conditions. Report and investigate all near misses/incidents/accidents resulting in personal injury and or property damage. Ensure the inspection and maintenance program for equipment/machinery in their department is being followed. Ensure general housekeeping is kept in order by the shift Regularly evaluate worker safety performance and provide regular feedback including corrective measures. Take every precaution necessary in the circumstances for the protection of a worker. Cooperate with the Health and Safety committee.
