Senior Structural Engineer on Canadian and International Naval and Coast Guard vessel ship contract, functional and detail designs. Responsible for delivery of products according to agreed schedule and scope of work, liaison with different discipline departments, Classification Society and Client. Support efforts to further develop customer ship construction specifications and drawing package into structural functional and detail design products including typical structural analyses including FEA based on Class Rules and drawing development or drawing review/oversight. Develop structural details, foundation designs and inputs to produce improvement. Will be responsible for structural calculations, analysis and design for new ship designs. Must be able to work in a team environment and accept direction from team leader. We are looking for 8 to 10 years of experience with5 to 7 years of relevant work experience directly related to ship design, or equivalent in training and experience. In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.Minimum 5 years of experience as a structural engineer, with experience in the design of commercial vessels, Coast Guard and/or Naval vessels. Knowledge of ship structures relating to ice breaking and ice classification is considered essentialGood understanding of the structural behavior of surface vessels. Experience with the use of Classification Society Rules, SOLAS and IMO regulations, and industrial standards such as ASTM, ASME, DIN. Experience in performing Class Rule scantling calculations, longitudinal strength analysis, FEA modeling and results interpretation, and ship structural arrangement, details and foundation design and fatigue analysis, Proficient in the use of AutoCAD. Good communication and organizational skills and in report writing. Proficient with Microsoft Office Product. Additional desired qualifications: Knowledge of submarine structures would be an asset. Ability to independently frame a structural problem, undertake structural analyses and prepare technical reports. Ability to develop a retro-fitment work package for structural repair, modification or upgrade Ability to interpret different Class rules and incorporate in the structural design of vessels. Ability to prepare the Work Breakdown structure, and the structural estimates during various phases of design. Good understanding of structural materials and design of structural joints for marine vessels. Understanding of areas of stress concentration and fatigue strength would be an advantage. Ability to undertake dynamic analysis of structures would be an advantage. Good understanding of Naval rules for design of warship structures would be an added asset.Serco Inc.
