Position Summary

As a Senior Risk Control Consultant, your interviewing, inspection, and reporting skills will be called upon to assess a variety of medium to large size commercial accounts. Summoning excellent verbal and written communication abilities, your responsibilities will include gathering, assessing, and reporting loss control information to assist with the underwriting process and offer loss prevention recommendations for our clients. In this highly interactive role, you will use your knowledge of NFPA standards, Building and Fire Codes, Canadian Electrical Code, National Safety Code, and casualty expertise to help prevent or mitigate insurance related losses.

What you’ll do in the role

Conduct P/C/A Risk Control inspections of commercial risks consistent with established requirements and protocols.

Evaluate fire protection including adequacy of sprinkler systems, fire pumps, water supplies.

Prepare comprehensive risk assessment reports and risk improvements in accordance with prescribed guidelines within an paperless and virtual environment.

Provide feedback to underwriters regarding quality of inspected risks.

Manage own inspection workloads within prescribed service and quality KPI’s.

Maintain up to date skills and knowledge of P/C/A risk control requirements, commercial underwriting guidelines and related codes, standards and best practices.

Communicate, consult and/or advise underwriters, brokers and clients/policyholders.

Provide technical and training resource as required.

Interact with regional underwriting teams, claims and local Brokers and vendor contacts in support of Commercial Underwriting objectives and value proposition

What you’ll need

Post-secondary education with an engineering degree, diploma or equivalency

Minimum 5 years commercial property & casualty risk control experience

In depth technical & engineering knowledge of risk control practices, procedures and standards, including NFPA

Proven ability to write and deliver reports

Willingness to take direction and work in a collaborative environment

Strong communication skills

Ability to research and develop information in order to make informed decisions and resolve problems

Ability to plan and set priorities and follow through on commitments

Positive attitude towards change

Strong PC (computer) abilities, including MS Word and Excel as well as familiarity with main frame systems/applications
