Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist
– Point of Care Testing/Laboratory information Systems

Status : Temporary Full-Time (Approx. 6 Months)
Hours:
Monday to Friday Days – 7.5 hours (hours are subject to change based on operational requirements)
Site:
Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital with travel to Milton District Hospital and Georgetown Hospital as required
This is what you’ll be doing:
Working with the Point-of-Care team, Laboratory Managers, Clinical Biochemist and Medical Director you will support the co-ordination and oversee the day to day operations of the Halton Healthcare corporate Point-of-Care testing (POCT) program, ensuring compliance to the Institute for Quality Management in Healthcare (IQMH) standards and other legislative requirements.
Working closely with the Laboratory Information Systems Coordinator you will support the laboratory information software system (Meditech) and other software programs in use in the laboratory such as Aegis POC, Instrument Manager and others.
Responsibilities:
Point of Care Testing:
Daily monitoring of Aegis POC program
Performs weekly, monthly and as required quality control review of all POCT devices
Troubleshoots technical issues with POCT devices
Assists with POCT EQA program
Performs validation of new POCT devices, new lots of reagents and QC
In collaboration with the POCT Team, assists with Point of Care device operator training
Assists with the monitoring of operator certification and recertification
Maintains accurate records of POCT program
Assists with the generation of quality and utilization statistics
Reports all issues with POCT program to Manager – Lab/POCT
Collaborates on the development of POCT Standard Operating Procedures
Chairs monthly laboratory Point of Care team meeting and participates on relevant committees/work groups as assigned
Meditech:
Perform required daily, weekly, biweekly and monthly LIS maintenance tasks
Modify or add to the Meditech dictionaries as directed by the LIS Coordinator.
Assist with analyzer interface maintenance and development.
Assist with other (HL7) interface maintenance and development.
Test changes appropriately and provide required documentation.
Work with Meditech customer support as required.
Work with and report issues to the Information Systems staff as required.
Validate Lab Test calculations as required.
Other Software:
Monitor performance of middleware used to connect instrumentation to Meditech such as Aegis POC, Instrument Manager and others implemented in the future.
Make and test changes to middleware as required.
Work with vendor customer support as required.
Work with and report issues to the Information Systems staff as required.
Make changes to the Abbott I-STAT DE Software as required.
Monitor performance and produce monthly reporting via GEMWEB Plus.
Working with Track Automation Software (DMS /Istanbul 2.0) as required.
Other Core Lab MLT Functions:
Other MLT duties as assigned or where workload/operational pressures require additional support/Core Lab MLT resources.

Current general registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario required
Recent clinical experience of 5 years in the Core Laboratory
Demonstrated excellence in laboratory Quality Control theory, practice and troubleshooting.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Laboratory Institute for Quality Management in Healthcare program and requirements.
Strong organizational and troubleshooting skills
Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and customer service skills, within and external to the laboratory setting
Teaching/training experience an asset
Must be able to work independently or in a team setting; demonstrated self-direction
Demonstrated ability to multitask
Must be capable of adapting to changing priorities, deadlines and procedures.
Experience with Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
Experience with the Meditech Client Server platform.
Experience with Meditech dictionary editing/maintenance an asset
Continuing education relevant to area of responsibilities as outlined
