Our clients are a Mechanical and Electrical consulting engineering firm that have been in business for over 20 years, and specialise in providing engineering consulting services for commercial renovation and interior fit-up projects. Their office in Scarborough is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer or Designer to join the team.

Your new role
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer / Designer, your responsibilities will include the following:

  • Provide cost effective and energy efficient design of HVAC, plumbing and drainage and fire protection systems for the industrial, commercial, institutional and residential sectors.
  • Perform HVAC system design entailing heat loss calculations, duct design, and equipment selection accompanied by an accurate adherence to ASHRAE guidelines.
  • Boiler, chiller, heat pump and cooling tower design in their entirety.
  • Design of Plumbing systems including sizing and routing of domestic water systems, sanitary drainage piping and vent piping and also includes the selection of plumbing fixtures/equipment.
  • Design of fire protection systems including sprinkler head placement, sprinkler head relocation (renovation), fire hose cabinet locations, conceptual system design, etc.
  • Liaise and attend meetings with relevant parties to a specific project.
  • Prepare working mechanical drawings for Review, Permit, Tender and Construction.
  • Prepare project specific mechanical specifications for plumbing systems, HVAC systems, fire protection systems, etc.
  • Coordinate with all relevant project stakeholders parties such as client, architect, structural engineer, electrical engineer, site service engineer, general contractor, mechanical trades, etc.
  • Prepare engineering reports including analysis of existing system and provide studies and recommendations.
  • Execute Construction administration duties including bid document preparation/evaluation; act as consultant between client and contractor(s).
  • Prepare site inspections and reports to ensure that construction is in progress or completed as per the design and responsible for solving on-site issues during the construction phase.
  • Travel to sites and meetings will be required; automobile required for local travel. Travel throughout Canada may be required.
  • What you’ll need to succeed

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in the mechanical building services design and possess a solid understanding of the Tenant revitalization sector.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • A (P.Eng) designation is a strong asset, however all candidates with relevant experience will be considered
  • Excellent knowledge of The Ontario Building Code, NFPA, ASHRAE, CAN/CSA B149.1-10, etc.
  • The ability to lead a team of engineers and designers in a highly efficient manner.
  • Have strong analytical and decision-making abilities in resolving related problems.
  • The ability to plan, organize and execute work in an integrated work environment.
  • Excellent communication verbal, written and presentation skills.
