The Senior Director of International Commercial will provide executive leadership for the contracts/commercial function and lead a team of geographically dispersed contract professionals responsible for the full contract life cycle (opportunity capture, contract negotiations, contract performance and contract close out).You are someone who thrives in a multifaceted and dynamic environment.You will have ultimate responsibility for setting commercial direction, policy and procedures of the subsidiary based upon corporate level strategy. You will ensure that the commercial support provided to business leaders shows value and contributes to the overall success of the company. This position demands constant communication, diplomacy and teamwork to ensure effective decision making. You will be a member of the VP/GM’s executive leadership team.The successful candidate will have a range of responsibilities, detailed summary below:Position would report to the Vice President of Contracts/Commercial of a major global defense contractor but with a strong dotted line to the Vice President/GM of a $500MUS Canadian headquartered subsidiary.Will work on a wide range of complex strategic and programmatic matters and provide expert advice on contractual, Offsets and procurement terms and conditions.Will maintain and promote implementation of a contract management/administration policy which supports the company’s near and long terms business strategiesWill apply enterprise risk management solutions and mitigation strategies aligned with corporate objectives to optimize operational performance while establishing and administering many division-wide best and leading practice initiativesWill establish strategic plans on operational matters in collaboration with senior leaders across the business and ensure effective achievement of objectivesWill manage, lead, and develop the skill set of a team of approx. 40 commercial professionals in several countries (Canada and Europe) and facilitate the overall control of staff planning budgeting, and managing expense prioritiesWill have the ability to attract and recruit top talent, motivate the team, delegate effectively, celebrate diversity with the team, and manage the team’s performanceWill interact with executives, major customers, and Government officials regularlyWill advise business partners on procurement regulations including Canadian Standard Acquisition Clauses and Conditions (SACC) Manual, the United Kingdom Ministry of Defense (MoD) Defense Standards (DEFCONs), and the United States Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), and will provide guidance arising from procurement regulation changes and changing government procurement standards in the jurisdictions in which the company does businessWill interface and partner with the Law Department in a collaborative fashion and seek expert legal advice when prudent or required, but generally be able to act independently as the company’s lead subject matter expert on required/preferred terms and conditionsWill implement solutions to further Business Development and Capture organizations in support of new business capture and partnership/teaming goalsWill help manage corporate level risk – participate in key capture review, and assess and advise on contractual execution risks and funding risksWill be the owner of Contracts policies and procedures – streamline and tailor those to business needs, as necessaryWill participate heavily in the company’s strategy and compliance with International Offset PoliciesWill be a leader viewed by other as having a high degree of integrity and forethought in his/her approach to making decisions; the ability to act in a transparent manner which always taking into account what is best for the organizationWill contribute as a member of the senior leadership team to its strategic direction of the organization and actively contribute to discussions and decisions on organizational issuesQualifications:12+ years of experience with leadership in contracts management, including overseeing large, complex proposals and negotiationsPossession of excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to lead a team to accomplish directed tasks and goalsProven negotiating and persuasive skills when negotiating terms and conditions and drafting contractsRecognized for motivating large teams, complex problem solving and developing future leadersCommitted to creating an inclusive, diverse and engaging culture within the organizationStrong understanding ofCanadian ITB/VP policy and International Offset PoliciesIs self-reflective and aware of his/her own limitations, leads by example and drives the organization’s performance with an attitude of continuous improvement by being open to feedback and self-improvement.Naturally connects and builds strong relationships with others and has an ability to communicate clearly and persuasivelyHas experience with leading large, geographically dispersed contracts/commercial organizationsA strategic thinker with sound judgement who has the ability to empower, partner and collaborate with other groups to resolve issues that extend beyond the Commercial functionStrong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex business data that can be applied to business decision discussionsAbility to interpret, advise, guide, mentor and critically analyze all aspects of Contractual relationships and agreements in a rapidly changing environmentKnowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to proposal preparation, contract negotiation, and the UK and Canadian Government acquisition regulations (DEFCONs and SACC clauses)Experience in Defense, Aerospace, Public Safety or other highly regulated industries would be beneficialBachelor’s degree required.
