The Senior Camp Leader reports to the Supervisor, Camps. This position will be responsible for assisting in the weekly operations of summer camp programs offered by the Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo. The Senior Camp Leader will be respectful of camp participants and will be responsible for making sure that the camp activities and areas remain clean, safe, and well maintained. This position plays a critical role as one of our front line staff members and must display an exemplary level of customer service through the services offered by the Sports and Recreation Department.Position Type: 4 Seasonal Positions AvailablePay Rate: $20.90/hourAnticipated Start Date: July 2, 2020Anticipated End Date: August 28, 2020Posted: March 11, 2020Closing Date: Open until filledLeaders encourage participants in day-to-day activities and create age appropriate activities that promote fun, learning and developmentInstruct camp programs in accordance to the Regional Recreation Corporation’s (RRC) policies and proceduresMotivate Junior Camp Leaders and campers, be punctual, and display a high level of energyProvide a safe and secure environment with respect to the RRCWB’s policies and proceduresAssist with set up, take down and cleaning of leisure programs equipment or suppliesSupervise leisure programs and enforce rules for all guestsEnsure the provision of nutritious snacks and lunches when appropriateProvide parents and other participants with information regarding staff, scheduling, expectations, services, and planned activitiesProvide insight into programming and emergency proceduresProvide exceptional customer service to all guestsComplete additional projects as assigned by the SupervisorCertifications:Current Standard First Aid/CPR/AED Certification or equivalent (including CPR C) Education: High School DiplomaEssential Skills and Experience:Minimum 1 year recent experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced recreational/camp environment with childrenPrevious participation in team sports or sport campsStrong programming and planning capabilityExcellent understanding of a child’s physical, emotional, intellectual, and social developmentPossess strong leadership skillsDemonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamAbility to engage in continuous learning and on the job trainingMust be able to command the attention of large groups of childrenEnjoy working in a high-volume, fast-paced, gues-service oriented environmentMust provide a criminal record check with vulnerable sector for review and acceptanceDesirable Skills and Experience:Experience with working with children of different ages and abilitiesLevel 1 Coaching CertificationSome College/University EducationExperience in customer service would be an assetPost Secondary Certifications or Courses or related experiencePHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS &WORKING CONDITIONS:This position requires full time work (35-40 hours per week) and a flexible schedule including early morning, late night, and weekend workThis position may include heavy lifting of supplies and equipment and may be exposed to loud noises and will require an individual to be able to concentrate in a busy environmentThis position may require travel between our various facilities within the Wood Buffalo Region.
