We are currently seeking a Senior Accountant for our growing Transaction Accounting Advisory Services (TAAS) team. Delivering quality in everything we do, MNP is a leading national accounting, tax and business consulting firm in Canada. Our team is committed to providing meaningful and reliable financial information that ensures our clients are always well protected and positioned. TAAS consists of a group of dedicated national team members who specifically handle technical projects including new accounting standard implementation, loan staff engagements, complex transaction accounting, expert witness reporting and IPO readiness. Performance ExpectationsPerform technical accounting research and prepare documentation for clients Identify accounting issues within contracts and agreementsPrepare financial statements and corresponding notesApply knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and/or Accounting Standards for Private Enterprise (ASPE)Respond to client questions and queriesRaise identified technical issues with manager or engagement partnerUpdate manager or engagement partner on the progress of engagementsClearly document evidence from testing and conclusions madePrepare professional correspondence, technical reports, client summaries and presentations outlining findings, facts and highlights resulting from the client engagementCollaborate with client engagement team prior to commencement of client work to discuss roles and responsibilities, risk areas, materiality and deadlinesDevelop and maintain relationships with client managementDevelop a thorough understanding of MNP’s services, businesses and industryContribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes Raise awareness of MNP at community eventsLead engagement teams while coaching and mentoring junior team membersAttend internal MNP courses to further develop accounting and assurance knowledgeCredentialsCompletion of a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designationMinimum 4 to5 years of relevant work experience in public accountingExtensive knowledge of and experience working with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS)Experience in the design of engagement procedures based on risk and materialitySolid understanding of business, accounting, management and practice development principlesStrong computer literacy including effective working skills of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPointSome travel may be requiredCore Competencies and Personal CharacteristicsIntegrity – professional whose honesty, integrity, confidentiality and high ethical standards contributes to effective leadership and optimal business relationshipsEnergy – displays enthusiasm, optimism and passion while maintaining a high level of productivity and a balanced lifestyleDiversity – understands the importance of different backgrounds, perspectives and experiences and is respectful of individual differencesCommunication – effectively expresses ideas and conveys information in business writing, conversations and interactions with others that make an impact and persuade their intended audience(s)Client Service Excellence – understands the importance of quality client service, proactively identifies client needs and creates strategies to proficiently serve clientsBusiness Development – looks for and seizes profitable business opportunities while focusing on the ability to gain increased presence in the community Forward Thinking – anticipates the implications of situations, takes appropriate action as needed and prepares for possible contingenciesAgility with Change – initiates, sponsors and implements change by taking a facilitative catalyst role People Management & Leadership – goal-driven leader who effectively manages self, others and teams to achieve goalsCoaching – takes responsibility for one’s own and team members’ performance by setting clear goals and tracking progress against those goals, promptly addresses performance issues, is highly organized and uses personal judgement and decision makingMore than a paycheque, MNP delivers.
