As a seasonal member of our Research, Development and Innovation team, you will learn how new crop varieties are developed in Western Canada and gain experience in agronomy and crop breeding as you assist with the field evaluation of experimental varieties and breeding materials. You will also gain practical experience working with farm machinery and driving a truck and trailer. Nutrien Ag Solutions offers a competitive salary with paid overtime. There is a position available for a four to six-month summer term contract with some flexibility, from May 1-August 31, or April 1-October 31. The summer term contract may be extended depending on business needs.Located in Edmonton, AB and reporting to the local Agronomist and research technicians, you will be involved with the establishment, maintenance and harvest of canola, wheat and barley research plots.What you will do:Field seed bed preparations and flagging of sitesSeed cleaning, seed treatment and set-up of seeding envelopesEstablishing and maintaining small plot field trialsSet up and operation of field equipmentOperating small plot field equipment such as tractors, seeders, sprayers and tillage toolsDriving a truck and trailer to move equipment between sitesApplication of in-crop herbicides and fungicidesTaking accurate and precise agronomic notesOperating a small plot combine or swatherFall land preparation, including application of herbicides and fertilizerEquipment calibration and maintenanceAssisting technicians, agronomists and plant breeders with other duties as requiredSome travel and out of town work may be requiredWhat you will bring: Punctual, reliable and able to work outdoorsA high level of attention to detail resulting in consistent outcomesProven problem solving and critical thinking abilities in team and individual settingsExceptional interpersonal and organizational skillsA valid Class 5 driver’s licenseSmall plot field trial experience and/or agricultural or farm experience is an asset but not requiredMechanical aptitude with farm machinery is an asset but not requiredCurrently enrolled in or finished an undergraduate degree program in Agriculture or a related natural scienceAre you a good match?
