    Non-Pharmacist – Dispensary Supervisor

    Loblaw has always been committed to continuous improvement and organizational development. In the retail pharmacy business, we constantly strive to improve our processes and evolve in an ever-changing healthcare environment. As the role of the Pharmacist continues to expand so should that of the Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) particularly in very busy dispensaries. We propose expanding and redefining the role of a qualified RPhT to that of a “Dispensary Supervisor”.

    In this new model, the Pharmacist Manager continues to be the Designated Manager with the College and remains in charge of all pharmacy activities and all designated professional staff members including the Dispensary Supervisor and does so without having to manage all technical and administrative aspects of pharmacy operations. The Dispensary Supervisor reports directly to the Pharmacy Manager and Store Manager. All non-Pharmacist colleagues report into Dispensary Supervisor. The Pharmacy Manager remains the primary point of contact with the Director of Pharmacy Operations and retains ultimate responsibility for pharmacy operations. Achieving a balance between the professional oversight of the pharmacist(s) on duty and the operational oversight of the Dispensary Supervisor would ultimately free up pharmacists to focus more on patient centered services like Medication reviews, Prescription renewals, Immunization services etc., all of which in turn enhance patient care, build trust and foster loyalty. Loblaw leads through innovation and we believe that the next development in Pharmacy step is to have a carefully chosen Registered Pharmacy Technician who can help manage the dispensary under this newly redefined role of Dispensary Supervisor.

    Managing the day to day:

    Oversee all daily operations to ensure that the pharmacy runs efficiently by organizing and managing the workloads of non-Pharmacy team in collaboration with the Pharmacy ManagerResponsible for providing positive team leadership and promoting engagement amongst the Pharmacy teamWorth within their full scope of practice including product verificationIn partnership with the PM, participate in conference calls and lead huddles to disseminate any pertinent informationPrepare non – Pharmacist schedules to optimize performance and the customer experience. In addition, approve vacation time and manage leave of absences. Update STAS and ensure payroll is submitted each week specific to non – Pharmacist Colleagues.Resolve any issues with Pharmacy Enhanced Support (PES), third party billing, IT, audits, manual reversals, ordering processes etc.Frequently check Flip and generic pharmacy email account and respond to any actionable itemsIn partnership with the PM, participate in conference calls and lead huddles to disseminate pertinent informationEnsure compliance with provincial and federal pharmacy regulations as well as Loblaw Standard Operating Procedures,Policies including the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA)

    Customer Care Services:

    Support outreach activities with physicians and the communityWork collaboratively with the Pharmacist on Duty to resolve customer service issues in a timely and professional manner

    Training and Supervision

    Provide regular coaching to non Pharmacist team members to maximize productivity and individual developmentPerformance manage Assistants and Clerks by providing timely and candid feedback and supportDelegate tasks appropriately to optimize workflow and to ensure completion in a timely and efficient manner consistent with the CBAEnsure effective integration of new hires, including training and follow-up during probationary periods and thereafter to ensure successful onboarding. Example: TOP trainingProvide ongoing training for all new and existing pharmacy colleagues with a focus on identifying patient care service opportunities

    Business Development & Financial Accountabilities

    In partnership with the pharmacy manager;You are accountable for the financial success of the departmentFormulate, implement and drive continuous process and efficiency opportunities and growth.Track objectives and key performance metrics.Promote and support the execution of all patient care servicesCommunicate regularly and on an “as needed” basis with various stake holders of the business such as, but not limited to, the Store manager and the Pharmacy Support team.Monitor and review weekly projections and labour managementStrive for continuous improvement in sales and script growth and maintain a thorough understanding of business development opportunities.

    Oversee inventory management and manage WIS inventory count preparation and execution

    Manage returns and drug recalls.

    Maintain pharmacy conditions and standards in accordance with the various risk assessments including but not limited to the LAR and Accreditation.

    Manage the Drug Stewardship Program encouraging safe medication disposal practicesPerform quarterly Naloxone reporting and temperature log reporting where mandatedComplete medication incident reports and develop action plan(s) with the Pharmacy Manager prevent reoccurrence

    What you will need:

    5+ years of retail experienceExceptional customer service skills with a talent for building customer loyalty.Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Assistant certificationRegistration with appropriate Pharmacy Association, where applicableAbility to effectively communicate with coworkers, supervisors, suppliers, physicians and customerA leader with a positive approach to communicating with all colleagues.Strong and collaborative leader and team playerAbility to implement practical procedures of systems which are moderately complexExperience with Kroll or Health Watch an assetRespect for the confidential and individual rights of our customers
