The Registered Practical Nurse is a part of a professional interdisciplinary team at Parkland on the Glen, located in Mississauga, Ontario. The Registered Practical Nurse will assist the Director of Care in supporting our residents in the planning, development, organization, implementation, and evaluation of the overall quality of resident care by the nursing department.

Who You Are…

As the successful candidate, you hold a Diploma in Practical Nursing and are currently registered as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario. You are passionate about working with seniors and have experience working with the elderly in a seniors’ living or long-term care environment. You have comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices, excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You are available to work a schedule of flexible hours and all shifts inclusive of days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays. You have your current CPR & Emergency First Aid Certification and can provide a Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening. Advanced proficiency in the English language is required, proficiency in other languages considered an asset.

What you will do…

This is a full time 6-month contract. Reporting to the Director of Care, the Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) works collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team to meet residents’ needs according to an individualized service plan. The RPN works to their full scope of practice to plan, direct, and evaluate total nursing care and supervises the care given by non-registered staff on a particular shift.

 Our expectations of you…

  • Performs initial and ongoing assessment of the residents’ needs;
  • Develops, revises and implements the resident care profiles;
  • Orders, administers and stores medications and treatments in compliance with the policies of the facility, pharmacy and standards of the College of Nurses;
  • Adopts the legislation of the RHRA and enforces compliance mandates under the direction of the Director of care;
  • Ability to manage department in the absence of the Supervisor or Manager in areas such as staffing, equipment breakdown, supply ordering and receiving;
  • Directs, assigns and evaluates the work of personal support workers;
  • Liaises with other health care personnel, agencies and families as required;
  • Assists in the orientation of the resident, family and nursing staff;
  • Documents and investigates resident/staff incidents and complaints and follows up with the Supervisor or Manager promptly;
  • Completes audits and reports as required;
  • Adheres to the Employee Standards and ORCA Code of Ethics;
  • Promote a safety culture by continuously working safely including but not limited to identifying and reporting hazards, following safe work practices and procedures, wearing personal protective equipment, supporting others to work safely and completing safety education.
