POSITION SUMMARYReporting to the Patient Care Manager, will work within the context of a dynamic client/patient and family recovery model of care, and in accordance with established standards of practice, and the vision and values of the organization. Works in a team based environment promoting a holistic leisure lifestyle by addressing the social, physical, spiritual, emotional and cognitive needs of clients/patients. Will develop plan, facilitate, schedule, organize and implement various therapeutic recreation programs within both inpatient and outpatient environments. This will be established by conducting assessments, developing individual recreation plans, completing patient documentation, skill, instruction, development of program goals and objectives, and evaluating a variety of individual and group recreation programs. Contracts will include staff, clients, families, and community agencies.QUALIFICATIONSDegree in Recreation and Leisure Studies with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited universityMember in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO)3-5 years’ experience working on an Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Unit and Mental Health Day Hospital ProgramExperience working as a primary therapist and be able to carry a caseload in a Mental Health Day Hospital ProgramStrong working knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles and practicesDemonstrated ability to in developing, organizing, implementing leisure/recreation programs and assessing leisure needs/goalsExperience in facilitating individual and group interventionsAble to discern relevant information to make effective decisions regarding patient care planningAble to access appropriate community supports and work effectively with a culturally diverse and complex clienteleAbility to work independently, self-directed, and can effectively facilitate programsAble to work collaboratively within the interdisciplinary teamDemonstrates commitment to professional development and learningDemonstrates a strong patient and customer focused philosophy in all interactionsAbility to analyze research and implement evidence-based practice into Policy and Procedure development and clinical practiceCommunicates effectively using timely, appropriate written, verbal, and non-verbal meansExperience in HED, BCARE, HPF is an assetProven attendance record.Ability to perform the essential duties of the job.Current CPR/First AidCurrent certification in non-violent crisis intervention is an assetExperience in supervising Recreation Therapy Students and volunteers is an assetDemonstrates behaviours consistent with Mackenzie Health’s Commitment to CaringModels behavior that is aligned with the values of Mackenzie Health – Excellence, Leadership, and EmpathyCommitment to providing an exceptional experience for staff and clients within a challenging and exciting healthcare environmentMackenzie Health is an inclusive and equal opportunity employer committed to providing accommodations for applicants upon request at any stage of the recruitment process in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and the Ontario Human Rights Code.*You may be required to work atany site of Mackenzie Health
