ABOUT THE ROLEWe are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Recreation Therapist to join our Health Services team for a 12-month contract position. You will be working at the Fort McKay Health Centre with a multidisciplinary team of professional health care providers. As the Recreational Therapist, part of your role will be to develop and implement recreational programs for Fort McKay Elders and community members. The recreational therapist will work closely with other health care professionals to ensure programs implemented meet the physical and mental health needs of the isolated population in Fort McKay First Nation, while maintaining all safety and protective measures. This individual must be able to interact with staff at all levels in a fast-paced environment, while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient. This is a fulltime 12-month contract salary position based on seventy-five (75) hours bi-weekly.KEY RESPONSIBITIES Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Develop and implement programs that are culturally relevant, utilizing programming techniques that will improve the overall physical, cognitive, emotional, social and leisure needs of Fort McKay members Work closely with Elders and the vulnerable population of Fort McKay who are experiencing isolation due to COVID 19 isolation requirementsDevelop and implement programming based on research and clinical experience Work closely with Home Care staff to ensure programs meet the care plan needs of clientsMonitor program effectiveness through surveying participants every 3- 6 months for the 12- month duration Make appropriate referrals within Health team as neededConduct interviews and intake documents for program delivery and implementation Record and report program statistical data to Director of Health, Chief and Council and First Nations and Inuit Health Board (FNIB)Other duties shall be assigned as requiredKEY REQUIREMENTS Diploma in Recreation with a specialization in Therapeutic Recreation or Degree in Recreation Therapy, Leisure Studies, or Recreation Administration is requiredActive or eligible registration and membership with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA)5 years related experience working within recreational service deliveryExperience in mental health or geriatrics is an assetWorking knowledge of services, assessments, care planning and all applicable guidelines and standards as it relates to Recreational TherapyExperience working in a First Nations community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is considered an assetAbility to speak Cree and/or Dene considered an assetFirst Aid Certification required Valid class 5 Driver’s License & Clean Driver’s Abstract RequiredMust provide a clean Drivers AbstractMust provide a clear Criminal Record checkMust provide a clear Child Welfare checkSuccessful candidate will be required to live in (or relocate to) Fort McMurray, Alberta
