Role:

The Product Specialist role works in partnership with sale and vendors to increase profitable sales growth within specific product categories throughout the Region. The successful candidate for this position will focus on increasing profitable sales growth within the Protein segment, more specifically: beef, poultry and seafood. 

Role Responsibilities:

  • Deliver annual sales and piece growth targets in the category.
  • Mentor, train, and develop Sysco associates and customers in the category offerings
  • Focus on increasing category sales growth, including Sysco Brand and key local vendors
  • Participate in General Sales Meetings (GSM), regional and district meetings, attend customer workshop events as required, and attend Business Review process as requested.
  • Create and maintain key vendor relationships.
  • Work with merchandising Product Support Advisor (PSA’s) to identify new opportunities within existing customer base and accounts
  • Deliver to associates and customers promotion activity, new vendor programs, new products as well as industry trends and updates.
  • Provide solutions in menu planning, new Sysco branded and sourced product launches, and profitability at the operator level on behalf of Sales.
  • Make presentations to customers on a need basis with focus on obtaining increased business.
  • Works with the Merchandising team to help maintain competitive cost base by providing information to aid in supplier negotiations.
  • Communicate with merchandisers on new product launches and specific product needs.
  • Follow-up on all communications and commitments resulting from customer meetings.
  • Forward activity reports using Sysco 360 to the appropriate individuals outlining weekly activities and sales.
  • Is willing to work safely with minimal environmental impact and understands the importance of reporting all hazards, incidents, and environmental spills immediately to their Supervisor.
  • Understands that they play an integral role in their own safety and that of their colleagues and is willing to speak out when hazards are present.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements: 

  • 3+ years’ experience in a Sales or Marketing role in food services industry, with knowledge/experience in protein. 
  • Degree or Diploma in Sales, Marketing or related program or equivalent knowledge/ experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook etc.
  • Valid driver’s license in good standing with access to a vehicle is required
