Job ID:20250Updated:March 17, 2020Location:Main CampusPosition DescriptionArea :     Israel Studies     Duration :  1 year, renewable upon mutual agreement     Start date: September 1, 2020    Salary :     $55,000 CAD per annum plus benefitsTheFaculty of Artsat the University of Calgary is accepting applications for aPostdoctoral Scholar in Israel Studies . Job Description : The vision and purpose of this Postdoctoral role is to generate unique learning opportunities for students and to support the training of experts in Israeli Studies. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in independent and collaborative research that contributes to the strength and breadth of expertise in Israeli Studies in the Faculty of Arts. They will work with the Supervisor and Director of the Dr. Jenny and Hy Belzberg Israeli Scholar Endowment, to connect with the Jewish community members, such as the Centre for Israel and Jewish affairs (CIJA), and to co-build a program of community events. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in 4 activities in the course of 12 months; 2 at the University of Calgary campus and 2 other at the Jewish Community Centre (JCC). Expenses such as conference attendance, and other research related expenses, up to a maximum of $5,000 will be reimbursed with submission of receipts. The endowment also covers the extended health benefit plan, which is mandatory for all postdoctoral scholars, as well as the employer’s contribution to Canada Pension Plan/Employment Insurance. Qualifications :PhD in History, Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology or Geography (or related discipline) must have been awarded within the last 3 yearsExcellent written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated productivity for peer-reviewed publicationsTo be eligible as a Postdoctoral scholar at the University of Calgary, you must have been awarded a PhD or equivalent within the five (5) years immediately preceding the appointment.
