This full-time fixed term position is for one year and may be renewed contingent on satisfactory performance and availability of funding.Job Description:In 2016, the University of Calgary was awarded $75 million, over seven years, from theCanada First Research Excellence Fund(CFREF) for its initiative entitled: “Global Research Initiative(GRI) in Sustainable Low Carbon Unconventional Resources .” The goal of this research is to dramatically reduce the impact of energy extraction and energy use on the environment.As part of the implementation of its GRI scientific strategy and to improve hydrocarbon recovery, while reducing emissions and energy intensity, we are looking to fill a Postdoctoral position to perform research related to the utilization of microbial consortium for environmental and energy application with the special focus on bioremediation of oil pollution. The postdoc will work under supervision of Dr. Ian Gates and Dr. Jinguang Hu. The successful candidate will be expected to work within a team environment and have regular interactions with faculty, other postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students at the University of Calgary. We seek applications from qualified and motivated scientists with a passion for clean environment and energy and interdisciplinary research. Publication of peer-reviewed papers in high-impact scientific journals is an expectation of this position. The successful candidate will be required to work within a team environment and so excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of interdisciplinary researchers is a must.Qualifications:Recent* PhD degree in Applied Microbiology, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or other related fields with demonstrated training in microbiology, fermentation, protein engineering, enzymology.Prior research experiences in bioremediation, bioprocess engineering, and co-fermentation are preferred, but not requiredExcellent communication skills and capabilities with proactive attitudeAbility to initiate and develop original scientific research projectsAbility to work within a team environmentAbility to work effectively with a diverse group of interdisciplinary researchers*To be eligible as a Postdoctoral scholar at the University of Calgary, you must have been awarded a PhD or equivalent within the five (5) years immediately preceding the appointment.
