Position: Pharmacy Technician Job Code: 3509 Location: St. Thomas # of Openings: 2 Position Status: Temporary Part Time Union: OPSEU – Service Service: Pharmacy Closing Date: 19/02/20 Pay Range: $26.86-$29.94 Description 2 – Temporary Part-Time(Approximately June 30, 2020 – August 20, 2021, or may end sooner) POSITION DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Manager, Pharmacy, the Registered Pharmacy Technician will be responsible for accurately and efficiently carrying out the technical aspects of dispensing, compounding, checking and approving the final release of product including sterile admixtures ( e.g. chemotherapy, TPN and patient controlled analgesia). Using computerized technology, the technician will perform daily operations, BPMH documentation and actively participate in departmental inventory control, audits, medication safety initiatives and projects. HOURS: The successful candidate must be available to work all departmental (11.25 and 7.5) shifts including days, nights, weekends and holidays. In addition, this position must be flexible to occasional changes in hours when required to meet the operational needs of the department and be able to commit to the non-availability standards outlined in the OPSEU Service Collective Agreement. SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Completion of an accredited Pharmacy Technician program from a recognized post-secondary institution; Current certification in good standing as a Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPhT) with the Ontario College of Pharmacists; Demonstrated accuracy in computer order entry, pharmaceutical arithmetic, and application of pharmaceutical and medical terminology including knowledge of generic and brand name drugs; Experience with computerized order entry systems, preferably Pharmnet applications and Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Outlook); Preference will be given to those with experience in an acute hospital setting; Ability to work in a very fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment; Experience and ability to demonstrate proficiency in aseptic technique and preparation of sterile dosage forms including adult, pediatric, and neonatal products (TPN and IV add mixtures) preferred; Experience with purchasing and inventory management is a definite asset; Demonstrated ability to work well within a team environment and independently; Excellent interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, organizational and time management skills; Proven ability to follow specific instructions with a high degree of accuracy; Physical ability to perform the duties of the position including moderate lifting and pushing carts; Acceptable attendance in accordance with STEGH’s attendance at work program.
