Position Overview

The People & Culture Generalist adds value to the Company by managing all human resources functions. This position acts as a generalist in functions such as recruitment and selection, compensation, benefits administration, training, union and employee relations. Duties also include preparing, processing, updating, and maintaining a wide range of confidential employee records, files, correspondence, forms, and other documents. Also, preparing a variety of correspondence and reports by conducting research and reviewing data on several diverse issues. Providing quality customer service to our people is critical to the success of this role.

Key Responsibilities

· Perform recruitment and selection activities which include preparing and posting job vacancies, requisitioning the union if applicable, screening resumes, calling and scheduling candidates for interviews and preparing employment documentation

· Coordinating all onboarding activities, including safety orientation

· Collect and process all employee changes into the HR Information System and maintain employee records to ensure accuracy

· Maintain various human resources records, filing systems, databases and reporting requirements ensuring that confidentiality is maintained

· Provide regular and ad-hoc reports to managers for such things as absentee tracking, vacations, LOAs, employee performance or other reporting as requested

· Investigate concerns, provides advice, assistance, and interpretation of human resources and employee relations or collective agreement issues

· Administer the employee benefit plans, liaising with the benefit carriers and brokers. Assist people with their various benefit inquiries and benefit orientation

· Facilitator of the Health and Safety Committee to book and coordinate meetings, track and help drive issues to conclusion

· Represent the company at career fairs or other industry functions as required

· Ensure the organization’s human resource business practices are compliant with federal and provincial government legislation

· Proactively investigate, analyze and recommend changes for the Company’s existing internal HR processes and programs to achieve best practices

· Organize and coordinate Company social events

· Assist in other related HR tasks and projects as assigned by your manager

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Knowledge of effective and relevant job recruiting strategies and selection processes

· Strong knowledge of employment and labour relation laws such as: Employment Standards, WCB, WorkSafe BC, Privacy Act, and common law practices

· Experience in a Unionized environment and knowledge of typical union contracts is a key asset

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills

· Ability to exercise good judgment and deal effectively, tactfully and with complete confidentiality with employees, outside partners, and stakeholders of the company

· Ability to develop effective relationships across all organizational levels

· Strong business acumen

· Strong problem solving, decision making and analytical skills

· Basic knowledge of ADP payroll and related HR systems

· Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Internet Explorer)

Qualifications (Education, Experience and Training)

· Post secondary education in Human Resources and/or Business Management

· 3-5 years experience in a similar position

· Working towards CHRP designation is an asset

· Experience supporting staff in a manufacturing environment
