Mechanical Engineer – Project Leader – LCI Engineering – January 12, 2021

To support our recent and ongoing growth, LCI’s team is looking to add a Senior Mechanical Engineer – Project Leader; a P.Eng with 10 to 15 years experience to augment and round out our team. We’re looking for a talented, hands-on, driven person to support both business development, delivery, and technical activities with proven or emerging leadership to develop and manage our clients and projects.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Providing management, supervisory, and execution responsibilities while delivering detail-oriented mechanical engineering design projects.
  • Leading projects from proposal generation through design to final delivery.
  • Preparation of engineering reports, project proposals, scope of work documentation, and tender bid packages.
  • Project co-ordination on multidisciplinary teams for the execution of all stages of a project from initial proposal through to the construction and commissioning of equipment.
  • Preparation of design calculations, technical documents, and drawings necessary for purchasing, manufacturing, and installation of mechanical systems.
  • Mechanical design of pressure vessels, process equipment, steam & process piping systems, machines, boiler components, and structural steel.
  • Construction supervision, commissioning, and field supervision of mechanical equipment installation.
  • Specification and selection of vendor equipment.
  • Working collaboratively with engineers, architects, technologists, and specialist sub-consultants across all of JLR’s offices as part of an integrated, multidisciplinary project team.
  • Working with clients to guide, support, and develop project solutions that meet their needs.
  • Build relationships with clients and other firms in the field.
  • Participating in the preparation of proposals and the development of estimates for engineering services.
  • Management of workload for technicians and junior engineers to ensure that project deadlines are met and final deliverables align with client expectations.
  • Mentoring designers and junior engineers.
  • Travelling to client sites and also between JLR offices on occasion to meet the needs of various projects and/or for training purposes.
  • Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment to add to our team for the execution and supervision of detail oriented mechanical engineering design projects in a consulting environment for the manufacturing, petrochemical, and energy sectors.
  • Must have a degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program or a similar degree along with proof of competencies as a practicing engineer in these fields.
  • Canadian Licensed Professional Engineer with an Ontario P.Eng. designation, or ability to obtain it – preference to (P.Eng.) with 10 to 15 years of experience.
  • Sound understanding of engineering fundamentals to resolve complex issues
  • Knowledge and experience in: Plant design and layout for mechanical, process, and piping systems.
  • Piping design and stress analysis including familiarity with CSA B51, CSA B52, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, and ASME B31.5 codes.Pressure vessel design to ASME VIII Div.1 and Div.2.TSSA design registration for boilers, pressure vessels, and pressure piping systems.Finite stress analysis of boilers, machines, and piping systems.PFD and P&ID development.Canada, Ontario, IBC, ASCE building codes.Structural steel design and analysis to CISC & AISC.
  • Proficiency in the current versions of AutoCAD modelling and drawing (both 2D and 3D environments), Solidworks – an asset.
  • Ability to produce quality deliverables and monitor project related tasks.
  • Excellent analytic, oral, and written communication skills; Proven ability to develop new initiatives, lead small teams, and talk to clients;Proven project management skills, including workflows, budgets, deliverables;Proven business development or marketing skills.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) would be considered an asset.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a positive attitude.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills; Ability to work in teams consisting of people with varying backgrounds;Experience with government and private sector clients.
  • Willingness to work with JLR offices across Ontario:
  • Ability to travel both locally/internationally.
  • Valid driver’s license.
